Received a response for PFD

Let me give you the history.

My dentist reported me to a CA for $150  I did not realize I was responsible for.  The dofd is 1/2007.  I sent him a PFD and he sent me a bill in the mail.

I called them and they said they would delete it once i paid.  But they will not give me a letter stating they will delete once the balance is paid in full.  She did promise to call all the CRA's once paid.  This is a dentist office do you really think they would ruin their rep by not calling?

Please help what should I do?

I am a bit cynical about these sorts of things, but I would not trust them. They are not showing good faith by refusing to write the letter. If I were you, I would bring certified funds directly to the office and dangle it like a carrot, until I got the letter written (wait at the office while it's being written). Once you approve it, then exchange the $ for the letter.

ByrdMan, that is EXACTLY what I did in order to have my 3 collections deleted from my CR's. Committed to them a certified check if they would provide me an original duplicate of the letter of instruction instructing the CA to delete the baddie from my records.

Offering to pay in full with cashier's check is good inducement for a dentist to delete.

glamchick, sorry they didn't accept. I'd take another run at them pointing out it is in their best interest to accept your proposal. Instant payment...guarenteed funds, NO loss to them. You are offering to pay in full in a good faith effort to correct a situation.

Had a situation exactly like that. Insurance companies were arguing over which one was supposed to pay; neither my ins. or ex-wife's ins paid. Ex-wife cursed the med provider out. I used a different approach. I dangled the CC in front of their faces and demanded a PFD letter. They deleted from my report and left them (six) on her report. LOL! She should get rid of those somewhere around 2010.

Re: Received a response for PFD

Does anyone think I should try to write another later stating...

I received an invoice from you.. can you send me a letter stating once paid in full they will delete from my credit report?

Something along those lines

Re: Received a response for PFD

glamchick, this is where the saying: diplomacy is the art of letting someone have your way, comes into play.

I assume the dentist office still owns your account, even though it's gone to a CA. If so this puts you in a better negotiating position.

Write them(or call them...that's what I did, but not recommended based on what others say). Word it carefully. Insert something like this, but in your own words:

In a good faith effort to resolve this situation, I offer to immediately pay this bill, to you in full, with a cashiers check, if you will show your good faith by writing the collection agency a letter of instructions, instructing them to delete this collection item from my credit report. Furthermore, you agree to provide me with an original duplicate of that letter for my records. Thank you in advance, I remain very truly yours, xxx(type your name! Do NOT sign it!)

well, you get the idea of the gist of the letter. There are great examples you can find here:

Would this be my best bet with some of the collections I have on my report?  (Showing under the collections tab not under the accounts tab.)  I have one from Time Warner for $120 and another from my local electric company, although I may dispute the amount on the electric collection before doing anything since I don't believe it's accurate.  In the case of Time Warner would I PFD the CA, TWC themselves, or just go into an office and offer to pay in full for a copy of the original letter of instruction for the CA to delete it?  I'm not entirely sure a general payment center for TWC would have anyone of authority to write such a letter though.

Thanks for any input Smiley Happy

Re: Received a response for PFD

In my original letter I sent to the dentist office I offered to pay in full in return they delete this marking off my credit report.

I called and spoke with the office manager yesterday and she said she promised she would call have have the account deleted from all 3 CB's.  I asked her for a simple letter stating "ONCE PAID IN FULL THEY WOULD HAVE ACCOUNT DELETED"  She said they are not aloud to write such a letter?????

I am going to their office today... I am a very shy person this is going to be very hard for me to ask them to write the letter while im there with check and credit card in hand.

What if she still says no... do i just walk out?  What if they update my report because i wouldnt pay?

Re: Received a response for PFD

If they say that they're not allowed to write the letter, then maybe you could write the letter. I'd write it and bring a money order for the amount in question. I'd keep it simple but I'd tell them if they delete it, they can have the MO now. In other words, if they hold the pen, you'll move the paper. If they again refuse, I'd take the money order back and get the money back (USPS's MOs are refundable if you have the MO and stub, though check first)

The office manager is probably afraid to make a decision on behalf of his/her boss.
