Rejected by Shell/Citicorp, now what???

I sent a GW to Shell/Citicorp via the online secured email through my account. I told them that my husband had been ill and we had some problems making payments, blah, blah, blah. Asked them to remove the one 30 day late from this past June. I had been late before, but never 30 days.
This is how they responded:

Thank you for using our website.

I am definitely going to dispute it with the CRA's, but what chance do I have of getting this removed. What does Shell/Citicorp's response really mean? That I should/should not dispute?

This is my GW letter and it was basically rejected from what I can see. I have at least 4 more to go but feel so defeated~~already!

One more thing. I owed them $400 and paid them the balance due of $392, then sent the goodwill. Should I have done the opposite of that? My thinking was that if they reject my GW request, at least I will have the comfort of a 0 balance reporting to the CRA's while I wait for the response or dispute process.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks.

Missy

PS--the rejection only took 3 days via secured email of my online account.

I have sucessfully disputed several late marks on reports. It can work but unfortunately takes several tries. Keep at it and I am sure it will be removed

Re: Rejected by Shell/Citicorp, now what???

Hi,

The GW letters are no guarantee, and you may need to send them several times.  Lastly, you will have more success sending them by mail instead of by email.  Email is only being answered by csr peon.
By, mail you stand a chance of reaching a billing or collections manager.  By the way, Address your GW letters to a "CREDIT MANAGER"; they are the one that will make any final discussions.

My local credit union called me the day after receiving my GW letter to advise me that they removed the 30 day late on my report.  Remember, its not going to happen over night.  It may take 30-60 days for a creditor to remove the lathes.

Good luck.

Re: Rejected by Shell/Citicorp, now what???

Keep us posted.  I just sent a GW to Shell/Citcorp also.  My 30 day late was December 2002.  We moved in November 2002 and with Christmas mail and mail forwarding I didn't get a bill until it was 30 days late.  We rarely use a CC for gas, so I didn't realize that we owed them money.  I am keeping my fingers crossed.  How much does an almost 5 year late payment hurt you anyway, if they don't remove it?

Re: Rejected by Shell/Citicorp, now what???

Hi, based on what I have read on this board, the 5 year old late probably wont hurt much as long as it is paid off. But, I was advised that it may not be beneficial to have it removed as it may skew you up in some kind of a way, so I would post that question individually and let our great experts on this board respond. Good luck. Missy

Re: Rejected by Shell/Citicorp, now what???

Hi all,

My dh had a Shell gas card and we closed the account or so we thought back in 2005.  $0 balance.  They didn't close the account, we moved, didn't get annual fee letter until Feb. or March 06. Took a good hit with lates they put on our cr's.  GW'd them via mail and they sent letter last week that they were deleting the lates.  Sent to no one in particular, just explained mail mix up and they removed 2 30 day lates.   CRA's are not going to remove the lates bcuz they do as little as possible to verify the debt or lates IMHO.  Just send another letter.  Can you post the letter that you sent?

Thanks

Eve

I did get the baddie deleted by Shell. I got a letter from them saying it would be deleted. By the time I received the letter, it was gone.

Dont want to rain on anyone's parade but I got the same type of message.  When I disputed it online, not only did I not get the late removed, some more got put on there.
