Remove myself as AU

My husband at the time he got his Citi card added me as an AU on his account. He did this with out asking me first.

When I got upset that we had not discussed it first we actually got in a pretty good argument. So for the sake of sanity I just left it alone. Now he runs up the card pretty high on a regular basis and it kills my uti. I want to be removed as an AU.

To avoid a fight I want to do it and not mention it to him. So my questions are these:

1. Can I call city on my own and ask to be removed. Or go online and remove myself. Or does he have to do it. If that is the case I will just leave well enough alone. Hate to do that because no sooner does he pay it down he turns around and racks it up again

2. If I am successful being removed as an AU will Citi auto remove the trade line from my reports. If not and it does not drop off but sits there as a “not any more AU status” or however it’s termed will it sit there showing his balance he owed at the time I removed myself forever? Or will it sit there as paid? Zero. Don’t want it to look like I have an owed balance would defeat removing myself.

3. I know I could dispute each bureau that it is not mine and have it removed but I read sometimes that is a hassle. I also read somewhere can not remember where that if I get a Citi myself in the future after I asked the bureaus to delete the AU myself it may confuse them and never show my citi on my reports. BECAUSE I disputed his Citi.

I would not not even worry but I have obsessed over my credit for the last couple of years and follow all the ways to best be if it me. Low Uti. Etc.

And I feel his card is holding my scores down and could cause my cards to AA because I don’t have high available credit to counter act his uti on that card. Or just because high uti does not look good to some card issuers.

Just to add to all I typed. ...lol ..when I got the AU card I never even activated it. Just threw it in a drawer. Non of the spend on that card is from me or household stuff. It’s stuff for him. Hobby stuff etc. If I were helping rack the spend up I would gladly share in the downside of the UTI.

Thanks for for any help.

Re: Remove myself as AU

I believe if you call them and ask them they will remove you as an AU on his card. At least there is no harm in trying.

But i can't really understand why would anyone won't remove you from their account if you don't wish to have access to it, unless of course he is trying to hurt your credit for some reason.

Re: Remove myself as AU

yes debit advice is correct. Call the credit card issuer and asked them to remove you from the account and also request that they remove the account from your credit reports. Best of luck.

Re: Remove myself as AU

But don't be surprised if Citi won't remove you since the account is not in your name. As a general rule, only the owner of the account can add and or delete AU's.

Activate the card and go to town, he will remove you in no time.

Berk. Doesn’t seem fair someone could add someone without their knowledge but that person can not remove them selves.

Will give it a try this week to see.

Re: Remove myself as AU

In that case, the only thing left to do is to file a complaint against the husband with CFPB.

Re: Remove myself as AU

I was an authorized user on my husband’s three cards (Cap1, Discover, AMEX) and when we separated I called all three and they removed me immediately. Good luck!
