A credit inquiry is not the reporting of information by a furnisher.
It is just the opposite.... it is a request to view what other furnishers have reported.
An inquiree cannot instruct a CRA to delete "their reporting" of an inquiry.
To the contrary, the CRAs consider an inquiry, once filled, to have become a factual matter that requires them to maintain records to support their filling of the inquiry.
They must, for example, maintin the statement of permissible purpose provided by the inquiree in the event of any legal issue over its legitimacy.
They cannot put the toothpaste back in the tube after having provided a party with a credit report of a consumer.
They routinely deny requests to remove or delete record of inquries.
Can the inquries only be removed if you did not obtain the credit requested? Denial mind change
Also what exactly would you say in the letter..
Denail of the credit is not basis for removal of the inquiry.
The inquiry records the fact that the credit report was obtained.
Denail of credit requires the creditor to include, in the denail letter, notice to the consumer that they are entitled to obtain a free copy of their credit report if they provide the denal letter to the CRA within 60 days.
As a general reminder, we would not want to advocate on myFico the removal of valid inquiries. This can lead to some unwanted things happening especially if the account was opened.

gdale6,
Could you elaborate a little on this comment?
If the inquiries are valid then you should just wait the 12 months it takes to stop affecting your score. Do you have any baddies in your file? What is the reason for wanting to remove valid inquiries? I saw you wanted to have an 800 score but once you are around that range, the inquiries will be the least of your worries. Just wait a year and you'll be fine. If you'd like to waste money (to me it's wasted...it may be useful to you) and have a third party try to remove valid inquiries then by all meas do that but if you tried to obtain credit, it would be VERY unfair and somewhat immoral to try and have those inquiries deleted. I can understand if this was caused by ID theft or manipulative practices but if you are legitimately trying to obtain credit, other creditors need to see this and way this into their risk factors. You really shouldn't be asking on these boards for ways to remove LEGITIMATE inquiries.

Is there a way to get inquires off your report ?
Just for conversation purposes, lets say the inquires are legitimate.
Nope. If you want to avoid inquiries then avoid applying. Do not dispute inquiries.

Nope. Again, do not apply if you want to avoid hard pulls. You need to decide before applying -- not after.
Keep in mind that HP's are a relatively small factor. They can have a bigger impact for thin and/or poor credit profiles but the issue in such cases in not the HP's but the credit profile. If HP's are a problem then the real problem is bigger issues with the credit profile.

I had PenFed remove a hard inquiry from my EQ file last December. I was filling out a membership application but stopped when it appeared they would do a HP for a checking account. I aborted the application (so no authorization granted). Their system still did a HP with Equifax. They agreed that since the application was not finalized, no HP was authorized and they sent me a formal letter in January stating the INQ was being removed (I confirmed today on CK that it was removed).
Note: Filing a dispute with EQ got me nowhere - try pushing on a string. All EQ said was Pentagon was a legit organization and they verified the INQ came from Pentagon - said differently "pound sand".
You generally need to work with the organization that reports the data to the CRAs to get things done - be it an inquiry or an incorrect loan amount or an incorrect reported credit card limit.
Thomas, what OP was attempting to do was remove LEGITIMATE INQs from his report. OP basically wants to have his/her cake and eat it too.
