Removing inaccurate collection Vs Keeping it for longer credit history

I have a negative inaccuracy (profit and loss write off charged as bad debt) in my credit report from 6 years ago.  If I have it removed my credit history wil go from 6 years

to a little less then three years.  Now I know common sense tells me to get it removed, but sometimes credit scores go against common sense.  So whats better to have, a 6 credit history with one negative a or less then three year credit history with no negatives?

Thank you

Just to add, my credit report, If I get that removed, will just have two good closed accounts and and credit card in good standing that has been opened less then three years

Not only is it your oldest account, but it helps your AAoA. Removing it could negatively impact your score. I would GW them and ask them to remove any negative remarks.

For the millions of dollars they spend on research this appears to be a way too sloppy algorithm.  It is just ridiculous that its better to have negative info on your credit report.

Yea the way they do it is ridiculous. It should go by the number of accounts you have paid on time with balance amounts.
