Normally they don't go away on their own.

If you read this link, it will give you the background you need to ask questions that others here can help you with. I'm on Firefox, so you'll have to copy/ paste it into your browser:

Also, this is a link to a lot of really useful threads:

If you pay the charge offs will they be removed from your report? Also I would like to pay them anyhow so how do I find out who they are?

Re: Removing items from credit reports

If you pay the charge off's you are renewing the seven year reporting period.  A paid and unpaid chargeoff have about the same weight on your credit score.  The only way you pay is if they can validate the debt and they will PFD, or they sue, but most are open to PFD.  Do a search on the board for PFD (pay for deletion)

I thought the clock started ticking on the DOFD?  And that subsequent activity did not change the drop off date?
The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid

Re: Removing items from credit reports

same here - payments should not change DOFD but can change SOL in some states (SOL does not change if the OC has charged-off the account).

Re: Removing items from credit reports

Wrong- Paying it does not reset the amount of time it reports.

The DOFD does not change-

Making a partial payment would reset the SOL-
