Removing myself as an authorized user from parents' card

Not really sure where to start...I am thinking about removing myself as an authorized user of my parents' Citicard. They have high utilization on it (20k limit, around 80-90% utilization, not sure why), so obviously that is harming my score a bit. I had a 715 back in September, then got my first CC of my own, a Chase Unlimited Freedom and that dropped it to 700 (pay it off every week). Just this past week, my score dropped to 670. I think it might be because their utilization went up by a grand or so, probably due to the holidays.

I'm concerned that if I remove myself, I'll loose a significant amount of credit experience. Other than the high utilization, the payments are 100% on time and there are no derogatory remarks. They added me 3 years and 7 months ago.

For other credit, I have two student loans:

One that was opened 3 years 3 months ago ($6,206)

Another opened 1 year 2 months ago ($7,818)

They are both deferred till when I graduate and my parents will pay them in full (I am very lucky!). Would it help or hurt to remove myself as an authorized user?

Just trying to get stuff in line...next fall I am planning to graduate and get me a new Jeep. Smiley Happy Thanks to any advice!

These are all off of Credit Karma...so I know to take it with a grain of salt.

Hi Op! This would depend on first how long they have had this card. The age of that card would determine how much your Average Age of Accounts drop (AAoA). Now you could stand to gain some points in theory if your overall utilization on revolving accounts drops because of having the card removed. At that point, the question would be what weighs the most between the two in reflection of your scores.

I think they've had it a long time - at least 5 years, guessing more like 10-15 years.
