It doesn't really go under mortgage, so I figured I would post here. I hope it's ok.
I'm having to move because where I'm staying doesn't allow my second kitty. I'm renting from a private individual currently. I'm about to apply for a complex for myself, my Mom, and my two cats. For years before my current address, I just was a resident on her lease, never signing anything on it. Is there a way to check for free to make sure that there's nothing on my credit that could adversely my getting the new place?
Thoughts?
Thanks!
If the scores that you have listed in your siggy are accurate, you don't have anything to worry about. You really can't get a score above 730 with a derogatory on your credit reports.

Yes. In addition to www.annualcreditreport.com to check the "big three" CRA reports for free once a year, many of the rental-specific CRAs also have an option for a free annual report. Check out the list from the CFPB at: https://files.consumerfinance.gov/f/201604_cfpb_list-of-consumer-reporting-companies.pdf

Your credit is excellent and will have no issues in that dept. the only thing I can think of where you may run into a snag is possibly rental history - "I just was a resident on her lease, never signing anything on it." When I had a rental back in the days (landlord) besides doing a CR check I scrutinized rental history (previous addresses) it's the gaps that caught my eyes to approve or deny (maybe this just me). But just in case have something on paper.. And yes I welcomed pets
Do you WANT to move or you HAVE to move?
If you HAVE to move, I would talk to your landlord and work something out.
I can't imagine a landlord not talking a $1000 additional security deposit to ease their kitty mind if you are good tenants.
This is even more true if they already approved 1 cat.
Just a thought...

DON'T WORK FOR CREDIT CARDS ... MAKE CREDIT CARDS WORK FOR YOU!

Thank you for that link. I'll be looking it over and seeing what I can find.

This past year and a couple of months, I've had a lease in my name through a private individual. I'll be listing them for my current address. I'd say that since I have always made on-time payments, I should get a good reference from them. As far as being a resident on Mom's lease, I just wanted to make sure I wouldn't be liable for anything. (SN - I don't know of anything that was an issue with hers. I'm just a dot my i's kinda person and like to be prepared.)
PS - Thank for allowing pets! :-)

I like the way you think. When I was informed about Lucky not being able to stay, I offered to bump up my rent by $50 a month and add to my deposit. The reply..."it's not about the money." It's frustrating since they allow my first kitty that I can't have a second one. Mind you, I've never been late with a rent payment. So, it's become more of a HAVE TO move now. I'm just looking at it as upgrading my current residence. :-)
