Please help if you can:
I defaulted on an AMEX card in August of 2010, and worked with a collection company to pay $x.xx amount until it was paid in full. During the time working with the third party collection team there were never late or missed payment. In early 2013, I made a lump sum payment to get the balance to zero.
As soon as the balance went to zero in 2013, AMEX reported me 120 days late. Not 30,60 or 90, but 120 days late, which was 3 years past the account being closed.
After speaking with them, their comment was the account was closed in 2010, but the final payment was credited in 2013 and therefore it was over 120 days late.
Any idea how to fix this? I have written letters and called, but they will not budge. How can it be reported late if the account was closed/?
If they are reporting accurately then your best option is to keep requesting that either the lates be removed or the enitre tradeline be deleted, I assume you've already asked for both of these things 20x, well, let's get started on 21...
The account was delinquent until it was paid.
The determining factor in reporting the delinquency was whether or not it was delinquent at least at the stated acount in that month.
In the month the debt was paid, it was most approx threee years late.
I don not see an inaccuracy.
Disputing may well lead to their updating by reporting a late for each and every month since it first became delinquent.
