If the debit is presented more than once they can charge each time I would think. The amount of the debit does not determine if they can charge an over the limit fee. The balance in your bank account does. That is why when over draft protection became available they recommended to consumers to turn it off so that they didn't end up paying $38 for a latte when they didn't have $8 in their account and got hit with a $30 fee for charging it and going over the limit. Perhaps if you gave details we could give a more thorough answer.
