Against the feeling in my gut, I decided to pay off a Verizon bill that was a charge off after numerous attempts to PFD.  I thought I wouldn't get any points for paying a charge off but the lovely people at TU gave me 18, and EX gave me 27, EQ- they suck, no point change either way.  So i am living proof that sometimes you do get points for paying a charged off account!!!!!  Persistence, patience, and little bit of luck does pay off!!!!!!!

Diva, congrats. You have further supported the fact that no two situations are ever the same, when it comes to FICO scoring.

May I ask how old this charge off was?

It was charged off in 6/04;  So it was almost 4 years old.  It surprised me that I got a 27 point jump from EX, but they seem to be more generous from my experience.

Was this showing up under your "Accounts" or "Collections"?

On all three reports it was showing up under accounts which is most likely why it gave me points on TU and EX.  I'm sure if it was under Collections category there is a high possibility that nothing would have changed, but I haven't experienced that so I'm not 100% sure either way.

The account status changed to "paid collection after charge off" on all three reports.  EQ if the only one that didn't give any points even though it updated the exact same way on the other 2 reports.
