Approved me for a private student loan for 6k @ 3%. I get this back as a refund from my school, so I'll just use it to pay down more CC debt. The best thing is that there are no payments until 6 months after graduation......but I just got accepted to grad school so that will be another 4 yrs.

I'm so glad that I found this board. Yall are awsome. I wish there was some kind of award I could nominate this forum for.

What were your scores?  I applied for additional/private stu loan to supplement my teaching credential program costs just recently before I knew what was still on my reports and was turned down - I think I will try again in month or two since these are low APR and deferred until 08/09 to change my utilization #s.

My EQ was 639.

The thing with Sallie Mae, as with other private student loan lenders, is that you can't have any late payments in the last 21 months. I had applied just 3 weeks earlier and my score was actually a few pts. higher, but my GW letter to 2 companies were still pending so I had two 30 day lates from Aug 06. Once those were removed I applied again, and although my score was a few pts. lower, the lates were gone. So I guess thats really what they were concerned about. I also have a BK from 03, so the Signature loan is really good for those of us who have had past credit problems.

Have you maxed out Stafford loans? I thought that they were usually your best bet.
