Samsung.com Cyber Breach

Anyone who has an account on Samsung.com might want to check their email. There was a breach in July, affecting some accounts. Update your passwords.

I do Accessibility testing for companies who use iOS and Android. Purchased a new Samsung tablet in July. I've literally been in their system a max of 7 weeks, absolutely unbelievable. 🤦‍♂️

I only registered product, so no credit card or SSN in system. Samsung states those weren't compromised at the moment.

Re: Samsung.com Cyber Breach

I received that email as well, and came here to ask about it and saw this thread.

I know they don't tend to be very forthcoming on what information was breached, but it would certainly help if they would say what, so we can take appropriate action.  Now I don't recall that I'd have much info at Samsung, since I wouldn't have registered any info with them except maybe to register a product.  I don't have a Samsung phone, but I used to have a Samsung laptop from 2012-2016.  Any information I left with them could be from product registration or downloading of drivers etc.

EDIT... Hmm... I just went to samsung.com and attempted to log in, using the email address they contacted me through and a password I used to use before I got smart and started using different passwords everywhere, and it let me log in.  They appear to have my name on record but not my birth date, as it's asking me for that.  I entered a bogus birth date and got in after they emailed me a verification code.  Once I got into the account I confirmed that it was the laptop I bought in 2012 is what I registered for.  I removed that product from my account (as I don't have it anymore) and then found I could delete the entire account, which I did.

I think all the breach would have gotten was my name, email, and the fact that I owned a particular Samsung laptop.  My DOB wasn't on the account at all, and the password is one I don't use anymore (though it might get hackers into old logins on long-forgotten sites).

Samsung Data Breach

Not sure where this belongs (or even if it does since it isn't exactly credit).

Just got an email from Samsung saying that certain customers, including me, may have had data taken by a third party.  They assure me that no SSN/credit card number/debit card number was exposed.  What was taken varies from customer to customer but can include Name, Contact Info, Date of Birth, demographic, product registration.

OK, not good but these things happen.   What is surprising is Samsung's general credit monitoring offer.   They tell us to check our reports on annualcreditreport.com    And that's it!

Re: Samsung.com Cyber Breach

Got the same today. I have no stored financial info. My 3 Sammy devices are registered on the site. Just Samsung Cloud for my S22 Ultra. Which got a new update yesterday. Hmmm. 2 updates in 30 days? Wonder.

Ugh... you have GOT to be kidding me.  I've been signed up with them for 10 years...  maybe they don't have SS# tho, but who knows what is backed up from my phones over the years, and of course... credit card #'s.  Just bought a new phone several weeks ago too.  🤬

Re: Samsung.com Cyber Breach

This was a breach only impacting the Samsung account basic information. The private stuff like SSN and payment details were not impacted since they are not part of the system that was accessed.

They published full details of the extent here:

I enjoy sign up bonuses and that new card feeling.✌️
