Scam?

I received a notice from Transunion via USPS dated 7/29/2011. It said I had 6 items of negative information posted to my credit report in the last year and directed me to a website to see my consumer report from Transunion. I went in the site and it wouldn't let me download my free credit report for the year - I download them on the first week of the year every year to check for irregularities.

Since I knew I wasnt going to be able to sleep tonight if I didnt find out what was wrong (did I miss a bill? did someone steal my identity?) I came to myfico and purchased my latest transunion score and report. Nothing. No negatives posted in the last year. Only new things since March are the new mortgage for our first home, my score didnt even take a hit from the mortgage posting - a solid 644 same as the score we had when we applied for the loan.

Any ideas?

Re: Scam?

You should write a nice letter to transunion Fraud department and that way you might get your report for free and mental peace.

Re: Scam?

Well, as a follow up: I talked to Fraud services at Transunion. She confirms the information on the letter is legitimate, up to the part where there are six items of negative information posted on my report - which is not correct. I am very angry because I feel they are providing misleading information so that I will pay for a credit report. Who do I call now?

Re: Scam?

The letter didn't say there were negatives that affected your score, right? Arent' there 6 negatives when you add up Inquiries, New Accounts, Lower AAoA, etc?

DNB has been sending stuff like this to businesses for years. They also call with the same stuff.

This doesn't sound much different than all the misleading advertising that we all see constantly.

It is nice that you pulled your TU report from someone else. If everyone that pulled a report after getting a similar letter bought a report from another company, the letters would stop.

Edited to add the text in blue - need more coffee!

Re: Scam?

Probably they sent a generic one to buy their reports

Re: Scam?

The letter said "6 negatives that affected my score" - I only have one inquiry (for my mortgage app) and one new account (mortgage line) listed as new in the las 12 months. I reported them. They are purposely trying to mislead me into a. buying a credit report and b. signing up for their true credit monitoring.

Re: Scam?

It is certainly possible. I suppose they could say that you have 2 on each CRAs report for a total of 6........Smiley Surprised

Want to see a bunch of this type of stuff? - just have a business and get ready for all the misleading stuff from DNB.
