Hello everyone.
Here is the deal. I was going to apply for the Discover It card, but I remember in 2009 I was denied for every card I applied for so I opted for a New Millennium secured card and I put $300 on it. The following year I got a Cap One Platinum card for $500. I tried for a CLI for a long while and finally got one yesterday so it's now $1,000. I did get approved for the Dell Preferred Financial for $3,000, but I am not sure if that counts. All of these have NO balance. I try not to keep my utilization low as well and use my Cap One monthly.
Here is my situation. I currently make over $80,000. MyFico scores are: Experian 717, Equifax 700, TU 703. There are four baddies that will all fall off by next year. Two Cap One, Chase, and State collection. All from 2007 and 2008 and satisfied right away. The collection wasn't my fault, but I wont get into it.
I haven't had any subsequent issues. I have a mortgage, car note, the three accounts I mentioned, and small student loans.
I am not trying to ding myself with hard inquires and get denied. I am trying to be very cautious as I am on the edge of 700. Should I try a different card than Discover It? I want a card that either I get approved for a decent CL or it has a great track record of approving decent CLIs as time goes on. Also, the CLI with Cap One was not reported to the CBAs yet. Should I wait for that to reflect?
Have you tried the pre-approval offers for discover?
I'd recommend talking to some local CUs.
CUs are noted for generous CLs, and perhaps you can get a fresh start that way.
I filled out the preapproval form and the results said they could not "find" me in their system, but I can still apply for the It card. I did not block my credit report or anything so I am not sure why they can not find me.
amex bce i hear cli is generous or at least from all the people saying they get approved
