Score drops after disputing

Hi, I have a feeling I may be posting this in the wrong place (if so, I'm very sorry). I had brought up my fico scores from the low 500's to upper 600's (mostly because of student loan issues) and equifax even reached 701 in the last year. I have not had any late payments and have steadily paid down all of my credit cards with 2 of them at a zero balance this month. Have not opened up any new accounts or had "hard pulls". Also, I was NOT affected by Sallie Mae reporting that other folks were experiencing last month. However, my credit scores have dropped by up to 40 points over the last few months and the only thing that I can attribute it to is my writing dispute letters to all of the credit agencies. Do you get penalized if you write too many or if they research and then side with the creditor rather than the consumer? Thank you very much for your help with this. I love this forum. I have learned so much!

edit: Hi, GoodTims, I split your post off to form its own thread.

Re: Score drops after disputing

You did not say what your disputes were.  It is possible you disputed an old TL and while they are investigating they have removed that from your credit scoring, therefore you may have reaged your accounts.  Good Luck Vicki

Re: Score drops after disputing

You don't get penalized for writing too many disputes. They can and sometimes label you as a "frivolous disputer".

Some accounts are removed from scoring purposes while the dispute is in process. If this is the case and your score dropped, it means the accounts were helping you.

If they remain after the dispute, you should get your points back.

If they are deleted because of the dispute, you won't get them back.

I recently took an 8 point hit due to a dispute. It is now resolved but the points havent come back yet. Could be a delay in the company reporting?
