Scores are a Joke it seems

I purchased the Platinum report on Dec 5 and got 3 reports and scores.  My Equfax score has gone from 647 to 638 less than 2 weeks yet I haven't missed a payment, no new reports, no new inquires, and I actually paid off the only collection on my account which was an old medical bill.  This makes no sense and it was why I cancelled Score Watch to begin with.  It goes down for no apparent reason.  Can anyone talk me down on this or explain why this makes sense?  All my other scores are higher and more stable.  True Credit gives one group of three reports and do does Credit Keeper.  Their scores always show higher numbers??????

Re: Scores are a Joke it seems

It is the Equifax score that keeps going down for no apparent reason.  When I do a FICO request from this site for all three the results are below

TU 12/5 678  12/18 708

EQ 12/5 647  12/18 638

EX 12/5 670   12/18 670

Equifax keeps dropping and that is the one that this site uses on Scorewatch.  What about the others from MyFico.  Don't they count???

Re: Scores are a Joke it seems

ScoreWatch is based on your consumer credit score not you actual credit score. It is a consumer focused score, basically there to make you aware of your credit score in general. So does it matter yes, but is the ScoreWatch accurate not entirely.

Re: Scores are a Joke it seems

I'm using ScoreWatch as a baseline.  It may or may not be accurate to begin with, but it does seem to keep me posted on changes pretty accurately.  When I've opened accounts it alerts me and there is a temporary ding, as I've paid off credit overall I've seen it go up, and it seems to be a good baseline on whether my score is going up or down - regardless of whether it is exact or not.  That said, it does seem pretty accurate - my wife's passed 700 and we applied for a card - got 0% through April of 2010 with no transfer fees... same company six months ago declined her... so, if it is true that certain markers make it easier to get better deals, it has worked for us for the most part.

Re: Scores are a Joke it seems

My EQ has been at 698 for over a year.  I had inqs drop off, two cards turned a year, never late, etc, etc.

EX is 714  EX PLUS is 761!!!!

TU is 733

P Fico is 731.

I cannot get EQ up to 700

Re: Scores are a Joke it seems

Maybe EQ is really Bk sensitive.........more so than the others.  I had a BK in 2001.  The others keep going up and haven't dropped at all.  It just seems hard to get that one up.  My Mortgage company only reports to TU which is part of the problem I think.

Thanks

Re: Scores are a Joke it seems

There has to be some sort of change on your reports.

Print out the earlier FICO EQ report and the newer one, and lay them out side by side. Get your yellow highlighter out and go through, comparing balances and dates especially.

Although for many of us, EQ is lower than the others, the score is cranked out from the info on the reports. Identical reports give identical scores. Something had to have changed.
* Credit is a wonderful servant, but a terrible master. * Who's the boss --you or your credit?
FICO's: EQ 781 - TU 793 - EX 779 (from PSECU) - Done credit hunting; having fun with credit gardening. - EQ 590 on 5/14/2007

Re: Scores are a Joke it seems

If you paid off an old collection that can do funky things w/ the reporting dates.  Did you notice a comment about the date of your collection changing?

I have two old paid collections and I'm scared to do anything with them for this reason alone.  They're aging gracefully and will be gone in 2 years.  EQ reports two, TU reports one and neither appear on EX.  My scores stay pretty close despite the differences.

Hope that helps.

Re: Scores are a Joke it seems

Annie I have no idea why your EQ won't move. I know they deleted 3 of my oldest accounts so that explains why my EQ is 11 points lower than my EX and 22 points under my current TU score. Recheck the open dates on all your accounts. Before I started rebuilding my scores were EQ 682 TU 682 EX 674. This was nearly 20 months ago and with a 56% utilization. BK 7 was 7 years old at the time. Now my scores are EQ 693 TU 715 EX 704. Way too many accounts opened since April 2007.
