I have a collection account for $500 with Afni, Inc. on an old T-Mobile account. The date of last activity is 11/2002. The date last reported was 6/2003.
Is it worth sending a PFD letter for a smaller, amount? They've offered $270.
Or should I just wait and let it go away? I can't tell if that will be later this year, or next year.
Thanks for any advice or comments.
What is the DOFD? You will find this on a report directly from EQ or you'll see a removal date on a report directly from EX or TU.
Also, what is the last reported/updated date?
I'm not sure about the DOFD. I only have the data provided by myFICO (below). But I'm confused about which of those dates is the most important. Should I try to get the DOFD?
Thanks for your help.
Date assigned: Dec 01, 2002
Date reported: Jun 01, 2003
Date last active: Nov 01, 2002
The MyFICO reports won't show you the DOFD, you need to get the reports directly from the bureaus. Have you gotten your free annual reports for this year?
I've only pulled my Experian report (from their website), but it doesn't have the T-Mobile account listed. It's only listed on my Equifax report.
I can request my report directly from Equifax if that is what I need to do.

Is this what the CA that offered the settlement is reporting or the OC?
Judging by the date assigned date, DOFD was prior to Dec 2002, which means the 7 year mark has already hit or is really close.
If this account has not been reported/updated since 2003, I am not sure I'd do anything yet. Wait for it to be removed and then PIF/settle.
But, go ahead and get the dates from the EQ report directly and post back.
It is the CA that is listed on the collections tab with the date information.
I don't mind paying the settlement now. I'd like it removed from my account though, and I'm concerned that if they reject the PFD, it will somehow renew the 7 years.
Forgive my ignorance/paranoia.
CRTP(7 - 7 1/2 years) runs from DOFD. DOFD is set by the OC and can not be changed once an account is charged off/sent to collections/etc.
So, paying, offering to pay, etc will not restart the CRTP once it is at this stage.
It appears to me this will drop off in December, so I wouldn't bother paying them. Can you try sending them a DV? AFNI are well-known for their collection tactics.
There's actually an AFNI office in town. At least then I can threaten to egg their facility if they ever try to come after me! (For the record, I don't owe anyone any money, and currently have no collection agencies coming after me, and I don't expect any to.)
