Setback

I was just denied for a signature loan and credit card with Clearview Fed CU because of an unpaid judgement on my TU report. (only baddie, over 4 years old and letting it age off). It seems like around my area (Pittsburgh) everyone only pulsl TU. My EQ and EX are clean. I've been rebuilding over the last year and have made major strives getting my score up.

Does anyone know of any banks or CU that pull EQ or EX in Pgh, PA area?  I don't want to get a CFL but I feel this may be my only shot getting this loan (looking for roughly $5000) I get those preapproved CITI Financial letters all the time but I read on here they should be avoided at all costs. I need this loan to pay off a student loan and ahigh interest credit card.

Thanks in advance!!!

Re: Setback

Hi, Have you heard every heard of Alliant Credit Union, you can apply from any state their base camp is in IL/and CA I thought at one point in time you could only apply for this credit union if you lived out in that area but it was not true as I live in MA.  And the good thing about apping is they pull EQ only.  I applied three months ago for membership, this is a very good credit union when applying for  cc's and loans.  I recieved a $3,000.00 cc right at being a new member.  Read up on all the threads about this credit union on this forum.  If I were you I would try to join this credit union and then speak with a loan offficer for a loan.  Good Luck

Re: Setback

A setback is a setup for a comeback.

If a PA resident, you should be able to qualify for a CU in PA called PSECU. I hear they pull EX exclusively and are fairly easy to get loans with. What's cool about them is that, aside from your lender, PSECU is the only place you can get your EX FICO score as printed on your monthly checking statement. I wish I was eligible to join.

Alliant is a good one as mentioned. There's others you are currently eligible to join like Penfed (EQ), CCCU (EX), NASA FCU (Ex I think), Patelco (EX), Addison maybe, and I'm sure others (which haven't popped in my head yet). Also there's USAA and NFCU if you happen(-ed) to serve, both of which are EQ I believe. Try also your local community banks or ask if they pull TU first.

Thank you both. I didn't realize anyone could join Alliant. I'll look into PSECU as well to see if qualify. Fingers crossed

Re: Setback - Update

Thanks to my deceased father (worked for PA Liquor Control Board -- RIP Dad),  I was eligible to join PSECU. They are fantastic. Approved for the $6,000 (10.6%) sig loan and.......drumroll please.......$10,000 Visa CC (13.99% I think). They ask you what you are looking for, between $500 - $20,000. I said 10 and I got it.  This is easily my highest CL CC and my first 5 digit CL. Can't wait to say goodbye to my two HSBC cards. Plus the free EX score with PSECU, its all good!!!

I do have a question. When I originally called PSECU, they pulled my credit for the original membership, then pulled it again for the loan, and again for the CC. So I have 3 inq on my EX report (one from 11/17 and 2 from 11/24). I pull my CR daily with CCT. Is this normal? I asked the lady who was pulling my credit if she had to pull it multiples times and she said yes but that doesn't seem right since its all the same information. Actually my score did go up from 11/17 until now, since Jared finally reported my $2600 CLI, my util went from 41% down to 25%. Should I call to see if they can remove 2 inq's or just let it be? I'll take the 3 inq hit if needed. that would only give me a total of 4 on EX.

Re: Setback

you have to open a new checking account to get in with these credit unions, right?  how do you all manage that?  it seems confusing to use more than one account.

Re: Setback

I don't know about these specific CU's, but most only require that you open a share (savings) account, often for as little as $5.

Navy automatically opened a checking account for me, even though I didn't ask for it, and it wasn't even funded. I finally sent $100 just to sit there. I use the debit card for occasional cash w/d's. (Still don't have a CC from them.)

I agree --if I had to have an honest-to-goodness checking account with everyone who issued me a card, I'd have bailed long ago.

Re: Setback

I sent $6 to join. I want to open a savings account but don't think I'm obligated to. I'm waiting for the welcome packet for more info.

Re: Setback

I HIGHLY recommend PSECU....they are in my top 3 list (NFCU, USAA, PSECU).

They do provide a true EX FICO score (which is who they pull).  They are very generous and approve easier than most.  They have nice BT, no fees, competitive rates, good online services and are the largest CU in PA.

Good luck.  If you app for the VISA, once you get it, app to upgrade to the PSL/Visa (combo LOC plus Visa with combined CL).
