Should I? Credit Card Help

Hi guys,

So while I am battling the junk loan buyer I was able to secure a cc with Citibank via my student status, they did ask me for a copy of the paid leins etc, letters from the state and said the card would come-out this week with a $1000 limit, don't ask me how I got that amount but that's what I was e-mailed and told on the phone by them. As some might remember I have NO score with TU or EQ only 3 paid tax liens on each, and I have a score of 578 now with EXP, because the junk loan buyer put a 10 year old loan back on by lying about the DOFD, I am currently trying to get that off, etc.

I say all of this to say I wanted to apply for one more credit card AND that's it! I've been tossing between Cap 1 and BOFA, because I want to rebuild my credit. Which card should I try for?

Also my student loans will hit my CR sometime soon as per Citibank who services mines, I also made the interest payment on the unsub federal one, they told me I can pay anything I like without being penalized as long as I am in school etc.

Anyways I ask these questions seriously, because I am patient but want to take very deliberate steps to repair my credit life, so when I do graduate I will be in a better place to buy a home etc.

Oh yeah EXP also keeps my old Amex card on my account (it's 8 yrs old) that was paid in full but closed, I assume this is because positive info can stay on longer correct?

So the end result will be these very old tax liens that are now paid on all 3 CR. My student loan, and one Citibank account. This is outside of the junk loan issue of course.

Re: Should I? Credit Card Help

have you looked into an amex student card? it would be useful to get all that age reporting as a tl on all 3 cra's.

barring that boa would be my choice.

Re: Should I? Credit Card Help

I know, but I was afraid to try with AMEX again it wasn't that I ended on a super bad note but when I did end with them it was due to me being laid off, and having to settle for the full amount and they agreed to take of 2 baddies. I read somewhere that AMEX never forgets and I didn't want what happened over 8 years ago to stop me from getting them now. My parents told me to try them too, but if anyone pulls that EXP report I'm essentially screwed. I also forgot the lady at Citibank told me to put a message on the junk loan account and to ask the EXP to put "under investigation" so potential creditors would know I dispute it and why. I totally forgot she asked me about and I offered to fax my proof of how old the account was, and that my father had settled and paid that off, but this guy somehow was still able to purchase it, but to her it was a non-issue. She said that the person before her flagged it because they did their own calculations of the original loan balance, and how much I had paid down, and figured something was off with the DOFD, it didn't make any sense to this person she claimed, she said "so you had an angel looking out for you", because they pulled all 3 CR, and noted that none of the accounts on EXP were on the other two and thus why they called me to confirm those liens were paid and released etc.

So yeah I guess I did have an angel. I'm not sure if this will be the same with any other creditor, I may just get the machine and no other eyes. That's what worries me, and I know it's going to take a lot of letter writing etc to get the junk loan buyer to remove or the CR to remove, I'm already in the second stage of another DV on the whole issue, because he's just stalling. I didn't want to wait too long to start to rebuild, of course if I could meaning if any creditor was open to giving me a card even with a small limit. As they say beggars can't be choosy Smiley Happy

I would do nothing until you get the CA off...........have you sent a DV to them??   never call or talk to them!

Re: Should I? Credit Card Help

Yes, I sent them one and I am disputing with EXP, they sent me a letter stating they needed 15 more days, but I've learned on here not to give it to them, so I called and faxed them a letter. I am doing ALL that I can to get this off my CR, but I just feel like it's going to be so time consuming. Too late about doing nothing, because I have citibank, BUT I think I am leaning towards waiting on any other cards. I have sent all my proof from the orginal loan date, and when my father paid etc. I dunno if this is why EXP is asking for more time, or if it's because the junk loan buyer is stalling. I've learned my lesson about not calling them, after I did it.
