I don't know how they got my SS, but I'm guessing it was from my insurance card or company.  The CA does not show on my wife's CRAs.  I have sent the CA my DV letter already and I'm waiting on the green card to arrive.  I was just thinking that since I already sent them a GW letter, they might say that the debt is mine, I don't know, I guess I'll have to wait and see what happens.

wait & see if they answer your DV.  If they do look at the patients name....doesn't matter if it is your name or wife's...tell them you paid by mistake...that it is not your bill!!!  you have never been to that dentist.....not my bill  name doesn't match SS#......that should freak them out.

And say I will expect a full refund within 10 days!!!!

Even with ins. in your namw....wife is responsible for bill not you......if they don't have her SS#  tough!!!

Re: Should I DV on this?

Well, I got a response today, and my name is nowhere in their response. It lists my wife's name, and the fee for no-show from the Dental Clinic. I'm not sure how to proceed at this time. Should I write another letter, or call them? (I would prefer a letter to keep a trail)
I know this debt is not mine, and therefore should not appear on my credit reports, but I don't know what to write/say to them now to get them to remove it. HELP!

Waiting for the experts advice... Smiley Happy Thanks in advance.

Re: Should I DV on this?

Just wanted to add that this CA is local to me. They did not provide any document signed by me, or with my name on it. All they show is a statement from the OC that lists the fee, my wife's name and address and the dates.
They didn't provide any proof that they are licensed in my state to collect this debt.
I'm not sure if at this point I should try to DV with the CRAs or keep at it with the CA, but by reading other posts here, it seems the CRA take any type of information to validate (even if not on my name)
Sorry for being such a pain, but I would like to have something ready soon so I can mail it out tomorrow. They seem to be very fast to respond so far, and I need this taken off soon rather than later.

Thanks again

Re: Should I DV on this?

Well, I think I might not be able to win this one Smiley Sad I just found out this from the "State of Wisconsin Department of Financial Institutions"

How do I Dispute a Debit?

Disputing a Debit
If a collection agency contacts you regarding a debt (or a portion of a debt) that you don’t believe you owe, there are specific things you must do to document the dispute.

First, write the collection agency within 30 days of receiving the first notice, informing them that you dispute the debt and why. Make sure your letter is dated, properly addressed and shows the account number shown on the notice. It is also vital that you keep a copy of all correspondence for your records.

Upon receiving your letter, the collection agency must halt collection activity until a copy of a debt verification is sent to you. A verification may include a signed agreement, a copy of a judgment against you regarding the debt or an itemized statement of services rendered under your name (or the name of a dependent or spouse). It can also be as simple as a copy of the last bill the creditor sent you.

The collection agency cannot report the disputed debt to a credit bureau without also reporting that it is being disputed. However, if the collection agency reports the debt to a credit bureau before you dispute it, they are not obligated to update the credit bureau report.

If the debt cannot be verified by the creditor, the collection agency must cease collection activity on the account. If the collection agency continues to contact you regarding the debt, you should notify our office.

If verification is obtained from the creditor, the collection agency must mail a copy of the verification to you. It may then continue its efforts to collect the debt.

So, does this mean I'm liable for my spouses' debt? In this case this fee?
I'm about to write to a local attorney and see what they say.
