Siblings share the EXACT same credit report, best way to resolve?

My girlfriend and her sister share the same first and last name (except the middle name, but the initials of their middle name are the same too), but they were born in different month/date/year. They share the same address and almost the same phone number except the last number. Their social security number is completely different.

I wonder how this could happen since the unique social security number is meant to distinguish one and only person from the other.

What is the best solution for them? Just by contacting all 3 bureaus?

Each of them should pull their reports and dispute anything adverse from the other sibling.

This happened with me and my dad.  I disputed but they said it was right, I had to call the CSR and told her my middle initial was B. and my dad's was R.  then they corrected it.  Not exactly the same situation but still aggrevating.  You'd think the social would be the deciding factor.

Wow, can you imagine if they were twins thus having same DOB, same name, same address, etc.????  i guess different DOB and SSN is the only thing unique....so they are bound to have some CR overlap.

Have them look on their CR for "other reported SSN's"  I found that my wife and son's SSN's had been reported on my EX almost like "other addresses."   In fact both my wife's name and father's name were on my CR as "ALIAS / Also known as"

I had to dispute, provided SSN card, DL and Birth Certificate....eventually got em removed.

Re: Siblings share the EXACT same credit report, best way to resolve?

Have both siblings dispute which account(s) are theirs with all three credit bureaus. The credit bureau can flag these accounts it in such way that this should not happen again. The credit bureaus do not use the social security number as the sole way to identify you. The use name address (current and previous) age and generation code to identify you. When you ask for your credit report you have to put in more than your name and social security number. For example, a person who has moved from state to another or from one address to another applies for credit. If the bureau used only the social security number in this how would they know its the same person in both states and not someone else using that social but a different person?  Hope this helps

Re: Siblings share the EXACT same credit report, best way to resolve?

Same with me and my dad.

Same First and last. diff middle inital. But he's 29 yrs older.

I have "been" on credit report since 1984, since I was 7 1/2.

I kept some things on there, because it added some good credit history. Disputed rest. But pain in the butt if I refi or buy house. It messes up my Debt/Income ratio.

If it is not there all ready, make sure the all the credit bureaus have your date of birth on file. Secondly, when some one pulls your credit have them include the age in the request for credit. This should help keep you and your dads credit report from being mixed together.
