Simple question.

Hello all - I was wondering if anybody has had any luck getting hard inquiries removed from their credit reports?

Re: Simple question.

In general this is unlikely to happen.  Can you share the context in which the inquiries occured, like if you were applying for credit, mortgage...etc..

Unless a company just decided to pull your credit at random, it is likely that they have permissable purpose ( pp ) based on either you initiating a request for credit or based on being an existing creditor of yours.   If this is the case then they would have a legitimate reason to pull your credit and would have no reason to remove.

Re: Simple question.

In general, caution is warranted when disputing inquiries - it can lead to fraud alerts being slapped on your credit reports.  The effect of hard inquiries on your score is not necessarily severe.  As they age, their effect tends to lessen, and after a year they're not factored into your score at all.

Re: Simple question.

I was looking to refinance my car loan. I was under the impression that I was seeking a loan through cap one auto, but instead 5 different banks have pulled my reports and immediately (within 48 hours) my score dropped by 30 points with experian and TU!

Experian or Equifax? Consumers can't buy their EX FICO's any more. Where did you pull your scores?

For FICO scoring, auto loan and mortgage inquiries are "de-duped" (counted as one) when they occur within a certain time frame. It's pretty obvious that you weren't trying to buy 5 cars, and the formula takes that into consideration.

FAKO scores might not ignore those extra inqs. FAKO scores are what you get with three-report monitoring services, from TU's website, from EX's website, etc.

One thing to realize is that even though the FICO formula treats these inqs as one, a future CC app might be declined for "too many inqs." If so, you will have to gently explain to theme that your app got shopped, and it was just for one auto loan re-fi, not apps for 5 different CC's.

Re: Simple question.

Oo Ok. Now I understand.

One of my credit card's sends me alerts when any of my three scores have changed dramatically, I'm not positive where

they get their reports from.

Re: Simple question.

I know from experience that fako and fico scoring for inquiries are quite different.    TU fako recently dinged me ( truecredit ) when I had a hard inquiry despite the fact that the both of my other inquiries showing were over 1 year old.
