Re: So I just ordered from a pizza delivery place.....

I paid by a debit card once. When they delivered the pizza, they actually got a piece of paper and a black crayon and rubbed the number onto it. Said it was for verification. Worried me to death. I canceled my card and got a new one.

BINGO! I was going to bring this up later, but I had the same situation with a second pizza joint (OK, so I like pizza). It also scared the booger out of me, but nothing bad happened. I never ordered from them again. I don't know what I was thinking by giving the CC to them.

Re: So I just ordered from a pizza delivery place.....

Not too long before that happened there was a rash of debit card purchases by individuals working for companies like this. They were using the ruse of verification and then using the card to make illegal purchases. There were also instances of the debit/credit card number being scanned twice in department stores.

I use my bank card to pay bills online. I had a huge charge from some where on the east coast, done in person, charged to my account. Some how my information was obtained over the internet. Took forever to get it fixed and I quit paying bills online for a long time.

Even now, when I pay my bills online I worry something will happen

Check the websites of your credit card companies -- some credit card companies offer virtual account numbers for use when you don't want to reveal your actual account number.
