So looking towards the future.

So I'd like to thank everyone who has left tips for new people like me to read... before i came to this site, a couple hours ago, i was ready to get rid of one of my CCs due to the CL being at 550 for the past 5 years [capital one of course]. But, after reading everything i decided to keep it as its my oldest card, and i guess its not efficient to close a CC if i'm not losing money on it. Well i'm at a point where I want to try to get the CCs that are going to be great for me to have and build credit on them. Currently, I have a Capital One Platinum @ 550, Best Buy store card[HSBC] @ 1500, Chevron Gas card at 1500[not sure if it counts against me or not but i believe so since it runs a credit check to get], Best Buy MasterCard Gold[HSBC] @ 750, and a Chase Platinum @ 4000. I have not had a loan, and my last credit card inquiry was about 6 months ago. My util is about 3x% and will drop to 2x% in the next week. Now I'm debating about which CC i should get, i believe aiming for a Prime CC is the way to go, still not sure about what prime and subprime CCs are. I recently got an Invite for the AMEX Starwood CC, but I was also debating about getting the AMEX Blue... not sure which would benefit more in the long run although nights at the westin would be nice, or if theres any other CC's from other companies that would be more beneficial. I know I should wait until my util is lower before applying, but was just curious about which CC route i should go. Also, I was unclear if it was better to leave some cards at 0 balance and some at 1-9% util, or have all of them always at 1-9%.

Any Advice or Suggestions would be appreciated Smiley Happy

Re: So looking towards the future.

First...Great job on the current management of your credit util.  I just want to say you can shop without it costing you an inq. Try BofA's site.  https://preapproved.bankofamerica.com/cc/SelfInquiry.aspx They can tell you what they will pre approve you for without a hard pull. Then you can chose the card that fits your needs most.
Also AMEX is a great card to get currently They have been pulling EX. A lot of folks here are starting with the Delta gold...increasing the credit line at activation..and some are upgrading the card to BLUE. Good luck!

Thanks for the input, I appreciate it. I wasn't aware of that preapproved website from BofA.
