Soft inquiries overload file?

Re: Soft inquiries overload file?

All of the bureaus made changes to their infrastructures (well EX may not have as they didn't have this issue in the first place) as a result of the soft pulls from monitoring software overloading their inquiry data.  Actually prior to the changes a boatload of soft inquiries could push hard ones off the table.

No need to worry about that anymore to my knowlege at least, though you needed a a few daily pullers to overload it back in the day, CK at a weekly pull was a non-event for me... you basically had to go out of your way to create the issue.

Re: Soft inquiries overload file?

This problem happened to me and it's very frustrating. As far as I can tell it only happens with Equifax because for some reason their credit files can only hold a certain limited amount of data. Each time there is a soft inquiry made it uses up space until you run out of space in your file and it won't allow a SP. When this happened to me it took me a few weeks to figure out what the problem was. Equifax didn't know what was wrong I had to figure it out myself online. When this happens the soft pulls have to be manually removed. They call this account maintenance and if you are lucky it takes 10 business days. After about 2 weeks I filed a complaint with the CFPB and it was finally fixed (I hope- I hear it can reoccur). When it happens no data can be added to your report. When it was finally fixed an new account that had reported to TU and EX was missing from my report and I had to wait 3 weeks until my bank made its monthly report update for it to show on EQ. That was the only account I had reporting a balance that month so I was stuck with all accounts reporting zero for three weeks. I have USAA credit monitoring, Credit Karma etc. I was soft pulling EQ every day on one of the services and the other services pulled it another 2 to 3 times a week. It is a lot of SP's but I didn't know it could be a problem. I'm pretty sure by stopping the daily SP I can't avoid this in the future. I'm hoping this post can help people to avoid this problem.

Re: Soft inquiries overload file?

I also want to mention that the reason I was checking my report daily was to see when my revolving accounts reported so I could PIF/make a new charge to keep my accounts active, interest free and have all accounts reporting zero except one.

You have a 30 day grace period for interest, simply using Credit Karma I would suggest with a week variance after report date would be sufficient for that if you're having issues monitoring your credit more frequently?

I actually basically do this, while I know the statement dates of my various credit cards, I simply check CK fairly regularly and if there's something due I go pay it.  Workable system as trying to zealously maintain 1 reporting balance doesn't matter unless you asking someone to look at your credit report and it's usually easily prettied up a month ahead of any planned application.
