Soft-pull PREAPPROVALs - Updated 4/20/21

Be aware, BankMobile asks for extensive documentation. 
I prequalified, and clicked thru to apply. They then did a HP, and informed me they would need full bank statements, paystub, scanned ID, and COLLEGE TRANSCRIPTS. 

I finished college thirty years ago...

I emailed them and told them I wasn't going to give them so much info, and to please remove the HP from my report.

Same for me. $10K preapproval on May 1st. All the same info requested plus a copy of my social security card, no thanks. I never received a HP even though it said there would be one.

Just a FYI - I ended up with a hard pull on Equifax when I did the Kay Jeweler's prequalifcation link. 

Obviously I was quite surprised and did look further into it, along iwth disputing the hard pull with EQ (they didn't do anything besides the usual "inquires are a statement of fact" message). Called Kay/Sterling Jewelers/Comenity and got the run around regarding disputing the inquiry and asking kindly for it to be re-coded to a soft pull.

Lesson learned- read the fine print. They specifically do not have fine jargon indicating it will not impact your credit score/soft pull like so many others would, so perhaps they have updated their process. FWIW, when I did the prequal link despite scores in the low 700s I got another app that popped up for getting the Kay card from Genesis FS Card Services.

Yeah, unfortunately I got hit with a HP from trying the prequal for Kay/Jared yesterday as well. Kinda bummed about it. Not sure if I'm going to reach out to them to have it fixed or just leave it. Be careful yall!

If it were me I would capture a screenshot of the prequalification page including the comment that it isn't a final credit decision for future reference. I'd next file a complaint with the CFPB against whomever it was that made the HP,  probably Genesis, on the basis of their engaging in a deceptive practice by hard pulling my report when they specifically stated on the prequalification page that the procedure would not lead to a final credit decision.  Since per their description the procedure does not lead to a final credit decision, as a resonable person I had no expectation of submitting, nor did I submit, an actual application for credit ergo there was no permissable purpose for them to perform a hard pull. 

I would only specify that I considered an acceptable remediation the withdrawal of the hard pull.   They will have 60 days to respond. 

If I didn't like the response I'd then file a complaint with my state attorney general's office, but I generally don't have qualms about pot-stirring and being a nuisance when I'm annoyed.

@waqaszm1   Can you put a note or slice-n-dice Jared and Kay Jewelers?  Some peeps posting just prior to this have gotten bit by full pulls.

Idk what they are doing with that prequal link, its not showing up for me and the old direct link is still dead is there a new direct link?
