Someone reported to the IRS that i work for her as a "teacher." Her people submitted a tax return for me. I have met her, but I do not work FOR her. She is apparently paying my overseas employer a lot of money, in an attempt to pick on me. I am a flight attendant, and, for example, she can pay my employer to send me places like Saudi Arabia and Pakistan, when I request flying back to the USA. I think she is trying to steal my identity as to avoid paying millions of dollars she owes. She paints a picture of great wealth and success, but she is actually in huge financial trouble and on the brink of bankruptcy. How do I reclaim my identity, keep her from harassing me financially and protect my credit after she filed a fraudulent return? Please help me or direct me to an attorney who handles cases like this. Thank you!

Welcome to the forums!
Identity isn't an issue here because nobody is pretending to be you. It boils down to a disagreement with how income and taxes are being reported.
Without naming names, who is paying you right now? In other words, who gave you a check? Did the airline give you a check ever in the tax year at issue? Did this other lady ever give you a check or payment?
You don't need an attorney. This can be fixed in 5 minutes.
Thanks for the quick response. I am (and was) paid by a major airline owned by a government in the Middle East. I have never directly received a check from her, however, I've been told she considers me to be one of her employees.
If she paid you any money, then you'd have to pay taxes on that money. If she didn't cut any checks to you, then you don't have to pay taxes on non-existent income.
How is the IRS involved? What did they tell you?
Did she actually file a tax return in your name, or was it a W2 report to IRS, and copy to you, of alleged income? If she actually filed a tax return, it must have been signed by you or she would have had to attach a power of attorney authorizing its filing in your behalf. So you could very well have an issue of fraud.
The FCRA provides some very powerful provisions dealing with fraud and identity theft. One provision is your ability to place a fraud alert on your credit report, alerting creditors to your suspicion of potential identity theft. Most of the others dont kick in until information is actually reported to the CRA that you assert to be the result of fraud or identity theft.
The issue of whether it was reportable income would depend upon the details under the tax code.I would call IRS and ask them if it is reportable income. Filing a false or unauthorized tax return in the name of another could put her in federal prison.
In the end, if it was income, YOU are the one responsbible for including it in your tax return, not her. Her responsibility as an empoyer is to notify you of her reporing of taxable income to the IRS. . Did you ever get a W2 statement of income from her?
greatcreditgirl - how did you find out she filed a tax return in your name/for you and claimed you were a "teacher" working for her? If you can give us some more background about what you found out and HOW you found out, it would clear up some confusion that we have.
How is filing a tax return in your name/for you hurting your credit?
