Strange Credit Score/Report Discrepancy.

Hi all-- I wanted to know if anyone has had this issue or could provide insight. At the beginning of the year, I legally changed my first and middle name. Since then everything seemed to be fine re: credit reporting. Credit Karma's two scores were always within a few points of each other (620 and 626 respectively). I just signed up on this website because I want to rebuild my credit and deal with some past issues and my Transunion report give me a score of 724 (compared to CK's 620) and says I have no accounts in collection when I really have 3 bad accounts. It is also saying that my oldest account is only a year and a few months old and that I don't have a sufficient credit history. I have notified TU of the name change, but it seems odd to me that since my SS# never changed, my credit history should have followed. I really want this updated because I currently have 3 credit cards that all have no balance and I've been doing a really good job of keeping things in check. Any insight?

Re: Strange Credit Score/Report Discrepancy.

reports are keyed off more than just your SSN.. that's why a lot of folks remove old addresses and name variations - old info (presumably bad) will often fall off. Did you let those card companies who are not showing up know of your name change? You may need to tell them to update your entire account with the CRA vs just reporting payments every month.

regarding the score discrepencies - credit karme shows vantage scores, which are not the same as FICO scores. very few credit granters use vantage scores.

Do yourself a favor and ignor Credit Karma scores; they are completely useless. The information - account details - may have some value from a tracking/research standpoint. Stick with myFico.

Re: Strange Credit Score/Report Discrepancy.

It is possible you have what's known as a "split file." The name change probably didn't get associated with your old credit profile and created a new, second credit file. Is the issue ONLY with Transunion? Have you checked Equifax and Experian too? Regarding Credit Karma scores, those are not FICO scores. They're Vantage scores and not comparable.
