I need help! I got a text today thanking me for my purchase with a weird # 1-410-200-504. That was it. I checked all of my credit cards and then checked my bank (thank the Universe for online banking). I called my bank to see if I was a victim of fraud. The customer service rep asked if I use my atm card to purchase items. I told her that I occasionally use it to purchase groceries. She suggested I apply for a Citizens Credit Card because it would be tied to my bank account and then to retire my ATM card. I know I'm gardening, but I'm so afraid of someone wiping out my bank account. What would you recommend? Should I apply? My credit score will drop...sadly. I need as much advice as I can get. I hate living in fear of losing all my hard earned $$ to someone who doesn't care. Also, rents due on the 1st, as well as a couple of other items.

...and?
What did you find?
If there were no fraudulent transactions, it may have been a phishing scam.
Do all of your accounts look correct? No pending charges that you don't recognize?

As long as there's no pending charges on any of your cards you can relax... it's likely just a phishing scam.
I got a text late one night a few weeks back from a weird number asking, "Is this <first name> <last name> from <city>?", with my full name and a city I used to live in. I admit that one did somewhat get my attention, but I resisted the urge to reply since it was almost certainly a scam as well. (Our phone numbers are in numerous data bases now, and if it had been somebody I actually know they would have identified themselves.)
Also whenever I get text messages from stores they always put the store name in the text, if your message is that generic it's almost certain a scammer is just 'phishing'.
Again, no pending charges on cards, nothing to worry about... relax!
@Cjaysmom, I've moved your post to a new thread to get your issue more exposure.
We can also talk about debit vs. credit and your credit card offer a bit more 'freely' outside the Garden Club.
To all,
There were no pending transactions for the bank account. I will have to check on it on Tuesday. My only worries is that it could be something potentially bad. I want to remain in the garden and that is why I came here first. I don't want to apply for another cc and take another HP. Again, thank you to all who replied. I'll take it as it comes. At least my bank has been notified about this.

No link in the message? That's not a valid US phone # and when I Googled it messages from 410-200-5xx are from scammers trying to get you to click a link that will load malware on your phone. If no link they could be just trying to get you to call that number to ask about the "purchase" - another scam is to get you to call an international number that automatically places a large charge on your account.
BTW, do you have an iPhone? I don't what it is but I've had an Android phone since 2014 and have never ever received a scam/robo text message on it. I got an iPhone provided by my employer in January and I get 4-5 scam/robo texts per week on it, usually with links I know to not click. I block the number and they come right back with a new spoofed caller ID.

Yes there was a link in the message. And yes, I do have an iphone. I went to ATT website, and it seems this has been a problem for at least 9 years. You can't block it cause not enough numbers. According to the forum, it has crossed all cell providers platforms and even samsung users have this problem. This only started for me this year.

Ah well, that's all it was - scammer trying to get you to click the link which would not end well. Yeah, the AT&T site is one I saw when I Googled the number, lots of complaints on this. Sneaky, use a number you can't block, luckily they haven't found my LG phone yet. Supposedly the FCC is working with the wireless providers to implement a system to block these robo calls/texts, can't happen soon enough.

I suggest sticking to your gardening goal and block the text so you won't receive any more from that number. Definitely phishing. Every alert I get has detailed info. Example of one from AmX:
Large purchase on American Express acct ending XXXXX May 24. Amount $XXX.XX. Merch: TJMaxx. View recent activity at www.amexmobile.com
And even if your bank account is wiped out--well of course one hope it isn't--most banks have $0 liability for it's customers. So yep, stay in the garden.
EDIT: Wow, just read that these numbers can't be blocked.
Just check your accounts. If there aren’t any charges you don’t recognize, I wouldn’t panic. I got an email like that once. Just keep an eye on your accounts and your credit for awhile. It’s probably a scam. Sorry about the annoyance!
