I have a checking line of credit with Navy Federal for $15k with a small balance of $2k that I use and pay biweekly and two of their credits cards. GoRewards has a zero balance & CL of $10k (0% utilization) and the other FlagShip has a $18k remaining balance with a CL of 21k (0% utilization). Both my checking LOC and credit card have just about the same interest rate. If I moved $10k from my LOC to my credit card, will that reduce my credit utilization being reported? Are revolving credit cards and LOC recognized as one in the same? Basically, if I carry a high balance on my LOC in an effort to lower my credit card utilization will there be a reduction or will it just be a "wash?" Thanks.
Both are are reported as revolving credit accounts and therefore affect utilization/credit score the same
Welp, there goes that plan lol. Thanks for the reply
What is the credit limit on the LOC?
While an LOC is technically a revolving account, some high credit limit lines of credit are treated by FICO as installment rather than revolving. I think the line is somewhere around $35K.
Does your math calculation show that the LOC is indeed being included in your overall % util calculation?
My credit limit on the Checking LOC is $15k. On Credit Karma, it's not showing with my other credit cards as a revolving account so the percentage of my credit utilization does not include that account which is why I thought I could move funds this way. However, I just did the math (thanks for the great suggestion) using my latest MyFico credit report and it appears that it is being captured in my revolving utilization %.
