Re: TU VS4 -4 pts, negative reason statement:

I should also add that my score shift was from 850 to 846.  I'm not sure if there's top end buffer built into VS4 the way it is into some Fico score versions, but if so it's possible that my score drop was actually "worth" more than just 4 points.

I think it would more or less follow the mean, where I've had plenty of months with greater reported balances and plenty with lesser.  Even with greater ones reported I don't recall seeing a score drop and this reason code presented.  There have been plenty of months where I've had a 4-figure balance report on my daily driver, but I'm not sure if I had only 2-digit balances on the others.  Maybe multiple 3-digit reported balances is a thing, who knows.  I will see if I can micromanage things a bit and report three 2-digit balances next cycle and one 3-digit balance and see if the 4 points return.  Thoughts?

You might be right about 'number of accounts with a balance' having an outside influence here.

Since it's using trended data, all I can think of is something to do with either population or sample standard deviation,  i.e, the manner in which VS4 arrives at a conclusion for 'not enough balance paid down over time'. I don't know why it would use sample vs population (all 24 mos), but it's possible, I guess.

You know your report balances well enough to have a rough estimate of the differences from mean, so I'm probably off in the weeds with that.

I would say that 4 revolvers with a reported balance is slightly on the "high" end for me, as the majority of the time I'm probably at 2-3.  I have definitely been at 4 before though and even all the way up to 7 a couple of times (I believe in the last 24 months) for testing purposes.  I guess all I can do to test the "dollars" factor is have one of those 3-digit balances report as 2-digit and see if it is met with a change.
