Trans Union Tid bit

My Trans Union (TU) scores have been consistently lower than the Equifax (EQ) and Experian (EX) scores. The EX and EQ scores typically match or run very close to each other. TU sits by itself a few points lower on FICO 8 or many points lower on the other (older) FICO versions. Strange, each bureau has the exact same data.

Anyway......yesterday I pulled my 3 Bureau Report from My Fico. I laughed out loud when I read the reasons TU posted for the (negative)items impacting my score.

* No recent Non-Mortgage installment loan accounts.  Fact: I have a car loan with the credit union for the past 2 years. 3 more years to go to pay off. It does report on all 3 bureaus.

* Too many recent inquiries for credit. Fact: I have one (1) inquiry on TU report, and that was for my recent Chase card.

So....go figure....How do others fare with TU?

Re: Trans Union Tid bit

You get some weird stuff when there isn't much to complain about; I too have had that inquiry one off 1 inquiry on bureaus too.

Not sure on the loan one, which score specifically was this on?  If it were me I'd look at the details and see what the loan was being reported as, could be something weird.  FWIW CU's aren't known for their consistency in reporting unfortunately.

Re: Trans Union Tid bit

Hi Relevate...thanks for the reply! I know what you mean about Credit Unions reporting data Smiley Wink  Thanks for the advice. I did check back to the report and under details for the loan account, it does show as 'Vehicle Loan' for all 3 bureaus. And TU even had the very up to date balance.   Anyway...as I said...strange!

Re: Trans Union Tid bit

I think the main reason my own TU scores have consistently been lower than EQ or EX is that TU handles store/retail cards differently than the other two CRA's. Because I have three store cards (Walmart, Amazon and Overstock), that impacts my TU score more than EQ and EX.

Re: Trans Union Tid bit

My TU scores are about 40 points lower than either of the other two. There are actually fewer things on TU that would be considered a baddie than the other two. I have not been able to figure out what causes these differences. TU must weight something as more of an impact than others.

Started Rebuild 4/2018: EX 616| TU 604| EQ 621

Current 5/28/20:

First Goal Score: 750+ Reached 3/2019

Next Goal all over 800

Re: Trans Union Tid bit

Your not alone. I have not 1 point +/- at all since 12/31/16. New 2cd Discover card inqury/new account, 1 HP fell off. Nada. EQ/EX move up and down, more up. TU zippo, I called MyFICO and asked was there a connection problem with no score change. All she saw was EQ/EX has oldest account at 22+ yrs. I lost an account at 10 years last year and TU sits at 9 yrs oldest account. Still strange no action at all with all that happended this year. Least I didnt get dinged.

Ah, store / retail cards have been pretty conclusively debunked as being different in FICO 04 and later models; FICO NG 1/2 (2001/2003) differentiated but everything else does not... they should be the same as national bank cards explicitly in FICO 8.

What precisely are you seeing and what are the reason codes if you have access to them?
