TransUnion GE MONEY Inquiries

Hello,

I got my TransUnion credit report through annualcreditreport.com last night. Just now I noticed that there are 5 inquiries from 'GE MONEY' spanning 8 months, starting a year ago. I never applied for any credit for the last year, nor do I know anything about the company. Looking it up on Google tells me it has something to do with retail store credit cards.

The inquiry is in the same section as my only other hard pull from Capitol One, so I am guessing the GE MONEY inquiries are also hard pulls. It's hard to tell because the report doesn't explicitly say these are hard pulls, but only gives this description:

"The companies listed below received your name, address and other limited information about you so they could make a firm offer of credit or insurance. They did not receive your full credit report. These inquiries are not seen by anyone but you and do not affect your score."

According to Credit Karma I don't have any hard inquiries for TransUnion reported. What can I do about the GE MONEY hard inquiries??

Thank you

Soft pull inquiries for marketing purposes.

Re: TransUnion GE MONEY Inquiries

FCRA 604(c) provides the ability of creditors to submit specific criteria to a CRA and obtain a listing of consumers who meet the specified criteria.

It enable them to then make offers for credit to only consumers who will likely qualify, rather than sending thousands of offers to consumers whose files clearly do not meet their minimum standards.  Such inquiries provide only a listing of names and addresses, and cannot include any account specific information.  Finally, a record of such promotinal inquiries is prevented by the FCRA from showing in credit reports provided to others, which is the definition of a so-called soft inquiry.
