Greetings myFICO Community . . . I received great news today from TransUnion’s Executive Resolution Team. I made the mistake of obtaining a Bank of America credit card in 2011 specifically for an individual to rebuild their credit. The limit was only $400.00 and they needed it for rental car purposes. The card was paid on time majority of the time but in mid-2015, the individual incurred financial issues and defaulted on the card. My daughter was having major health issues and I too was struggling financially but I managed to pay the balance down to $188.00 by October. Unfortunately I was so strapped financially that I could no longer pay on the card and BoA continued to charge a monthly late fee.
Well, fast forward, BoA closed the account and charged off the cumulative $429.00 balance in January 2016 but they never forwarded it to any collection agency. I always visited this forum when I was looking for guidance and/or answers to my credit issues . . . and I attribute 100% recovery to this forum. I started my rebuild in 2019 and have been very successful with all adverse items reported except BoA. With BoA being the only adverse item, I opted to pay the $429.00 and within one month my credit score increased over 20 points.
I thought BoA was going to remove the item once paid but I was so wrong! BoA absolutely would not budge even after contacting the Executive Office. I have been trying to get the 3 CRAs to remove the item by calling their 800 or 866 phone numbers, but to no avail. Yesterday, 4/29/2021, I sent a non-threatening E-mail to two TransUnion executives explaining exactly what happened and what lead to the charge-off; well, I received a call this morning from a member of the Executive Resolutions Team stating that as a “courtesy” they will purge the BoA account and the system should update within 24 hours. I am so grateful as BoA is the only adverse reporting on all three CRAs. I am going to keep hammering this issue with Experian and Equifax with hopes of the same results. The items are currently scheduled to purge in December 2022. I am doing the "Happy Dance" and hoping for the same results for anyone else in the same situation. Thanks!
Thank you AllZero . . . the task of an individual improving their credit is a huge one . . . but very well worth it!

Looking at your signature, you have come a long way. You'll break 800s soon enough.
Congrats on the removal success! 👍🏼
Thank you Total80sKid . . . I was truly surprised and certainly happy!
