Transaction Dispute

Hello all - new user, I apologize if this post is in the wrong section, but it is related to a rewards card

Little background: 790+ credit score, multiple credit cards, decent history, never carry a balance, on time payments, no derogatory marks

I opened a Susan G. Komen card with Bank of America in February 2020. Within 2 weeks of opening the card, I get 2 fraud charges which were attempted at my local mall - card never left my possesion but BOA reports these were chip transactions.

1st charge: Apple store, $1331.75 - approved

2nd charge 10 mins later - over $800 at Nordstrom - denied

BOA was quick to alert me, but as the Apple charge went through, I had to file a dispute. I was credited back the charge immediately. March 3rd, charge was reversed as BOA "determined" since it was a chip transaction, it would be unlikely that it's fraud. BOA wouldn't explain why the Nordstrom charge was denied under the same conditions but the Apple charge stands.

Here's the issue - I opened a dispute again, but they told me the charge will now stay on the account while they investigate up to 90 days. I am liable for the charge as of now and it will accrue fees if I don't pay. I've never been in this kind of situation, and I'm unsure of what to do. Has anyone been in a similar situation? Any input would be greatly appreciated Smiley Happy

Re: Transaction Dispute

What do the terms and conditions for your account say? There's a section on disputes and whether you have to pay it and how it will affect you. Some lenders require you to write in to protect yourself fully, so make sure you download and read it. This is the section from my PayPal card and is pretty standard across almost all of my cards.

Almost all of my cards say I don't have to pay it during the investigation, but will incur interest until the investigation is over.

Re: Transaction Dispute

Yes, with BoA. Disputed a charge twice via snail mail. No response from BoA. Sent certified \return receipt. Finally, they responded. It still took legal threats from me for the item to be credited and most of the LF's were removed. Stay firm. Document everything.
