USAA Accounts

Has anyone had any bad issues with USAA lately? I have been a member since 2012 and the quality of service has gone down a lot at one point is was all about the member now it's all about money. I had a renter policy and no climes on it and they did not want to renew it this year saying credit went down. My FICO is over 815 and almost no debit only two student loans about 3k total. USAA uses an old FICO and it said it's  750 if they update it to a new model it be higher. I called and they said it's cancelled and they said we don't have to tell you why. She said basically low credit score for more then one year.

Re: USAA Accounts

IME, I haven't encountered any issues and I've been a member from the early 90s when I was in the service. I have a couple insurance products and 2 CCs and nothing much has changed, really. As far as "gone down a lot" that's pretty subjective to be honest. Just as there are members who may no longer be satisfied with USAA, there are others who are perfectly fine with being USAA members. They may not have world class or the most competitive CC products in the market, but they function perfectly fine for my needs.

As far as insurance products, it's always a good idea to periodically shop around with other providers to determine if you can score better rates 🤷‍♂️

It's not your FICO score.   Something else is scaring them.   MY SO and I have USAA for years.   When I filed BK7 my FICO scores were around 525.   Now they range from 760 to 850 with the BK still on two reports.   And I totaled one car and they paid the full value.

Whenever they say "we don't have to tell you," it means "We're just not really into you."

You will never know the real reason, but a FICO score of 750 is enough to get top rates with any auto insurer unless you have tickets, DUI, or other criteria.

Re: USAA Accounts

@Cory88

Appreciate your seeking out information and sharing what you know as data points. Financials and Insurance Companies change how they provide services and products over time based on what they see as their market and what they can provide in response.

As was mentioned upthread ... shopping your insurance(s) periodically is a good idea. Insurers change their underwriting in response to their understanding of the market and their own loss ratios and profit requirements.

You know that insurers have seen some serious losses in different geographic areas due to natural disasters so they may need to adjust to the losses (if any).

Related to financials, we may need to be open to what works best for us at a given time in life. In reading around on this Forum people are not shy about seeking new banks/CUs for a number of reasons.

USAA Federal Savings Bank is for the military person and family so their marketplace is narrower, and they need to adjust based on what they find works for them. In your case you may want to seek a different or additional financial that closer fits your needs of the day.

In my past I found USAA Bank had the best bank transfers, early deposits and debit card services. Today other FIs are matching that but, for many years USAA was a quiet leader.

In relation to insurance, I obtained a quote from USAA (at their request) Renters and it was 50% higher than the other insurers I talked with. Contacted them and they had me review the matter with underwriting ... results were the geographic area I live in they had no insured clients and no experience/loss ratio so, to protect themselves they "rated it up" ... ok and I went elsewhere.

Food for thought!

Re: USAA Accounts

I'm in the group of people that no longer find any value to use any USAA products. Their insurance rates in my state (Louisiana) are among the top 2 most expensive consistently, their secured credit card is useless to me and they hold a $250 CD of mine for it. The card never graduates despite holding it for years and having a credit score of 740 or better.
Their customer service has changed also, and in my experience leaves a lot to be desired for the prices you pay for their products. They are no longer what they were 20 years ago. Management had to have changed or something in that time span. You have to endure some pain to deal with them.

2025 & 2026 Goal: To continue to save cash until I have 12 months worth of living expenses in savings.

Years back USAA Federal Savings Bank had a retired Major General named Josue Robles Jr until 2015 (retired) and the bank was thriving during his tenure of leadership. USAA grew its membership by 53 percent under Robles' leadership. My customer experience went back to 2008 and I left in 2022. Found them through a referral from a MyFico Forum Poster.

After several CEOs since, the bank has not been the same. To read on this locate the San Antonio Express-News and use Google our friend. You will find your answers.

Will add back in 2017 USAA offered on a very limited basis the USAA Limitless Cash Reward Visa Signature Card with 2.5% on everything conditioned on a monthly ACH of $1,000 or more. Believe around only vets from 28 states were ever allowed to apply. There were definite clearly worded notes the card was limited and a test. Suspect the test was to see how sustainable the cash rewards structure would be. When USAA phased the test card out December 31, 2022 there were some unhappy card holders (I surely do understand as I was one of them). Note, USAA NEVER said the card was going to go beyond the test "Limited" status so we all should have known there were no guarantees. As you likely know, AOD pulled there 3% VS card and Affinity changed their rewards so in fairness, USAA apprised us up front that the card was basically being tested and may not be permanently in the line-up.

I've been seeing the same complaints. Thanks for the explanation as to why. I've had an account since 2006. I IIB my USAA card. I was just waiting the reported 99 month wait from filing to apply again. I may have to reconsider that and forget USAA.

I think that I had a $250 decidable with a $8500 insurance I also live in FL that I had a policy for four years and no claims. The new deductible I was told it 2% of what you insure and I was grandfathered in to the old rate.
