I signed for Verizon Fios last month over the phone and the CSR never mention anything about pulling my credit report and I didn't approve it either. Today, I got a copy of my Experian report and I saw an inqury from Verizon in there.
How do I go about disputing that inquiry as I never authorized it?
Thanks,
Eddy,
DirectTV pulled my report without my permission. I disputed the inquiry with the CRA and it was removed from my report. I do not know if this is a normal response to a disputed inquiry so YMMV.
UVerse did that to me as well. IMHO the reason is they they were checking to see how many cell phones you would qualify for. LOL When I signed up told them I didnt need a cell phone but they did the INQ anyway.

did you complain? that doesn't sound fair. you clearly told them you didn't want their service.

Yes, and they told me it was their policy to do so. You can pretty much expect an INQ if you get a new cell phone, cable account, and bank account and anything else you provide your SSN number to. The really unfair thing is that you dont get the benefit of them reporting on your CR or a Visa card offer if they have one.

Just an FYI, all utility companies pull your reports when you apply for new service. Once you give them your SSN, a report is pulled. I am not sure if it is good to dispute it.
Not all. I suspect a lot of the difference has to be location.
I live in a rural area and for local utilities, I've never had my credit checked when signing up.
When it comes to cell phones, landlines, cable, and satellite, I believe the majority do pull credit.
It is always good to ask.
