I could make a long story about my situation, but instead, I'll give you the guts of it.
1. Starting reparing my credit in 3/07. Got 15 negatives removed. Had only 1 postive account.
2. By 3/08 had at least 15 CC's, most with small limits, I thing 3500 was the highest.
3. Paid on time and in full every month,NEVER LATE, OR MISSED A PAYMENT.
4. 8/09 Became sick and hospitalized with meningitis for about 1 and a half months.
5. Lost job 10/09.
6. Haven't paid a CC bill since 9/09 (concerned about health, forgot about living)
7. The only thing being paid on time is my car payment (mother-in law pays)
8. Just got check to cover all my expenses and past due bills in full.
Please help, anybody. I don't know where to start, I just want my life back. I'm currently in treatment for one ailment and today had biopsy for another. (fingers crossed). I haven't spoke to any creditors yet (not sure if I should). If this were you, how would you go about getting back in good standing with the CC companies? Should I be calling them or writing letters. I'm not sure which direction to go in, but I know something needs to change. I've been so heavily medicated for the past 4 months, that I feel like I woke up in a new world. The world of Debt. I need help MYFICO Family. Can anybody help me?
Do it all in writing. Explain the situation in serious detail. Send hospital stuff if need be. Let them know you want to make everything right, pay everything off, and get everything back into good standing. Let them know how sorry you are.
some will not take it back to the way it was, some might. It all depends. But you want it in writing so that you have paper trails. Remind them of your stellar history with them before all of this happened. With proof, a lot of companies will understand hospitalization.
Good luck!!!
If you are interested in keeping or re-opening any of your credit card accounts, I would call the banks ASAP. Usually after 120 days they start writing the debts off and selling them to collection agencies.
Once you have an agreement with your original creditors, follow up in writing. Never promise anything you cannot follow through on.
If the debts are already with collection agencies, handle everything from the beginning in writing -- unless they have already started to sue you.

Proof can be provided, but I feel reluctant to even tell them about my hospitalization. It sounds to much like "a soap opera". The anonymity of this site, is the MAIN reasons I ask my questions on this forum. I'm writing the letters now. Thanks.
Hi...I'm glad you feel safe to come here.
Also, anyone who understands what meningitis is will understand that it's not a soap opera. It's the real deal. And it's a bad deal.
I'm glad you made it through.
