I had a pay day loan out. Due a few months ago and was laid off. I never received a letter from the OC or a letter from a collection agency. I called the OC today to make payment arrangements, and they said they sold the debt, however, they are not sure why they did not report or send a letter me. They said they sold it in January 2009, but mentioned that I would have to pay the CA a little more money because they are handling the debt. The debt is from October 2008. I did not call the collection agency. I called the OC back and said I was sending a payment in for a friend and got their Moneygram account information.
I went straight to Moneygram and paid my debt in full with returned check charge to OC. Since I never got a letter from any collection agency, as far as I am concerned, I paid the OC. NOW, the OC has been calling me every hour. I do not want to pick up the phone and talk to them. Don't know what to do. Lost job and wanted to do right and pay my debt in full even though I did not really have it in my budget to do so. Now the OC has been paid, but what do they want?
Please help and offer any advice. I feel that since the OC has been paid, their is really no need for them to try and contact me, if they truly sold the debt, they can send them payment.
Great News!!!
I took your advice and called the OC back, they said "whatever I did", they accepted my payment and I am free and clear with them. God is Great!!! Really did not have the money for this, but I owed the debt. I have 8 months of credit history, no baddies and wanted to keep it that way. Asked if they could send me a receipt or letter saying it cleared, she said they can't for legal reasons, but that is why I sent it via Moneygram so I have a formal record of payment and acceptance.
She even said I could probably take out another pay day loan. I will NEVER do that again. When I lost my job, my company did not give any severance, and I cannot touch my 401k for a year. I work in the commercial real estate industry and the whole firm when caput! So, fthe $315 was hard, but better to sacrifice now, than deal with it later.
Say a prayer for a new job for me. Thanks again for all of your advice. Now, I am going to work on my utilization.
