Use of Account Remarks

An online merchant charged my USAA card for something I did not order and refused to remove the charge to my card.  So I went to USAA and told them what happened.  It wasn't any major amount, but I told them that I did not make the purchase and there was no way the merchant could prove I had.  The disputed charge was resolved in my favor.

Now on my credit report, next to that account it says "Account in Dispute, Dispute Resolved, Reported by Grantor".  My account was never in dispute, it was a transaction and this really feels like USAA's Scarlet Letter for disputing a transaction even though it was found to be incorrect.

Do these comments factor into a scorecard somewhere? Do I just take it up with USAA now?

Thanks.

Re: Use of Account Remarks

Generally any potential scoring impact is dependant on if the dispute is currently active.

If the dispute is active, your score could take a hit because you are currently being scored without that account taken into consideration.  Once the comment is removed, the dispute is ended, and you will be scored with that account in the mix.

If it is a closed dispute, that account is already being used in your scoring anyway.  Theoretically it shouldnt impact your score.

But you could call and ask it be removed for the piece of mind. It is interesting your credit even applies here.. the transaction was disputed..  you did not dispute the tradeline itself.

Re: Use of Account Remarks

Remarks on accounts are non-scorable. However certain additional info is loaded in for any manual reviews to read. Most lenders do not care as long as they are paid. In your case the remarks are there to help other systems read the data correctly like automated reporting. In a reporting cycle or two the remarks will be removed. Lastly a account in dispute is not included in the mix for calculations.

While you might have only disputed a single charge it is a dispute of the balance owed. Indirectly it is a dispute of a small part of the info of your account. It is not necessarily a dispute of the whole account itself.

Re: Use of Account Remarks

Hello Achieving,

I recently found myself in a similar situation. After disputing fraudulent charges, and CC company finding in my favor, they added what I believed were inaccurate remarks to my report. Some said it was no big deal, others said it could prevent me from getting a mortgage. I was able to get the remarks removed working with the creditor directly.
