Visa Provisioning Service

I logged into my online banking today to do a looksie to make sure all was correct.  I do this often.

Today, there were two pending charges on my credit card, with today's date. (I've barely had my coffee & definitely have NOT done any online stuff prior to logging into my bank today.)

One pending charge had todays date, no merchant, and a zero charge.

One pending charge had todays date, (the merchant was) Visa Provisioning Service, and a zero charge.

Searched through the community here, using the search feature, and nothing popped up for Visa Provisioning Service.

Searched google and a few things came up.

Apparently VISA offers an automatic credit card information update to merchants who regularly do a recurring charge on your credit card.  You get a new card with either a new expiration date or a new card number and VISA updates all of those merchants with the new information.  Your card issuing bank can turn on and off this feature.  [My credit card is still good for a year. So reason for this to occur.]

Apparently any merchant can run your credit card information (zero charge) to find out if the card is still good/active without your permission or knowledge.  Smiley Frustrated

Sigh. I will be watching this one closely.  And tomorrow, I will be calling my bank to find out if there is more information on the "Visa Provisioning Service" pending charge and the no merchant pending charge.  AND making sure that the feature to automatically update my credit card information is turned off.

Has anyone else here had a similiar experience with "Visa Provisioning Service"?

Re: Visa Provisioning Service

If I recall correctly I've seen this show up when adding cards to Apple Pay and Google Pay.

Re: Visa Provisioning Service

It's happening again.

Just now, my credit card.  "Visa Provisioning Service"

I have never set up Apple Pay or Google Pay.  Ever.  I don't use my cell phone to pay bills.  Ever.  I use cash, checks, and the credit card via swipe.  My credit card has been in service for several years already and has quite a bit of time left on it before it expires.  So I don't understand why my credit card is being "Visa Provisioning Service" several times a year!

I have three automatic payments each month.  Those providers aren't automatically updated when the credit card expires.  I know - got burned with a late fee becuase the card was denied due to "expiring".

I really wish there was more detailed information regarding which vendor is requesting/checking the validation of the credit card.

Just a vent and a hopeful wish that someone can provide more information.  Smiley Happy

Re: Visa Provisioning Service

Is the card on PayPal or Amazon? Because they both do checks to make sure cards are valid.

Re: Visa Provisioning Service

Nope.

Partner had a GW2 credit check.  Same sorta thing - zero amount, pending charge.  Interent searches said it was related to an online game.
