I applied for a credit card and got a denial today. The denial said this for the reasons:
too many credit checks in past 6 months
presence of fraud indicators
unable to verify application information with credit bureau
prescence of fraud indicators
The latter three are the ones that concern me. I pulled my free credit report from Experian and there is nothing like that on there at all. I do know that I've had too many credit checks in the past 6 months (I have attempted to get some more credit to increase my available overall credit), but the other concerns me greatly. I received another denial a few days ago and it only said too many credit checks.
Does anyone know why it would say presence of fraud indicators and unable to verify application information with credit bureau? I just want to make sure my credit hasn't been stolen or something. Could it be because I've been applying for more credit or...?
Also, when I checked on Experian, it has a social security # listed that is not mine at. all. I called to contest it, but it basically sounds like since that doesn't effect my credit, they probably won't do anything? I've never seen a credit card # even close to that so I'm not sure where it came from.
Thanks in advance! :-)
Check the Experian credit are their any accounts that do not beloing to you? Ask Experian about that SSN and see if they can give you a name that goes to it.
Also get a copy of the credit report from the lender if possible.
I would write them and ask what the "fraud indicators" are. It cant be a "fraud alert," since only you, as the consumer, can place a fraud alert on your credit file.
Until you know what they are referring to, it is kinda hard to address it.
Okay, I contact Experian and ask, right? Thanks! I will look again, but as far as I can tell, everything belongs to me.

Not always. Can't speak for EX, but there are examples in here of FAs being placed after disputing as "not mine" on EQ reports. In our dark credit days when we knew nothing about repair, DW got hit with a FA after doing that. Also happens if you dispute inquiries, sometimes.
