What Should I Do?

Hi everyone! This is my first post in here. I've been reading alot however and I need some advice please. I'm trying to clean up my credit reports like most everyone else in here. I'm trying to get alot of 30 days cleared up and have already sent GW's to the creditors two weeks ago with no response and was wondering if I should try to dispute it with the CA and see if they would get deleted. Here is the details...

Bank of America = 30(7/06)(8/06)
Chase = 30(5/06)(7/06)
Citifinancial = (7/06)
First Premier Bank = (8/06)
Lowes = (8/06)
Walmart = (7/06)
Goody's = (6/06)
Target = (7/06)

What I'm afraid of is if I dispute them that some baddies might show up that aren't there. I don't think they should or if that can even happen so I thought I would ask.

Thanks. Bobby.

Re: What Should I Do?

This is a game where you have to learn patience.  Most of the time, it isn't going to happen with the first GW letter.  Some people have had to send several and it may take a few months or so.  Who did you pay?  The creditor or the CA?

Re: What Should I Do?

I paid the Oringal Creditors. None of these account went to collections I meant in the orignal post should I dispute them with the Credit Bureaus not Agency. Sorry I messed up.

What would you be disputing?

Disputes are when you are questioning that something on the CR is correct or valid.  Are your late payments valid? If so, why would you dispute them with a Credit Reporting Agency?

On the other hand, if there are extenuating circumstances that may explain to the creditor why you were late, and why they might choose to remove them, then the GW route you are pursuing is the way to go.

FYI, I am "o-fer" on my GW requests so far.  I have yet to be succesful.  I will keep trying.

Re: What Should I Do?

Then just continue to GW the OC's.  I have read a lot of posts on here where people have good luck with them.  Every once in a while, you should read the post in Frequently Requested Threads about encouragement and such.  I can't remember the name of it, but it is by Tuscani.  That will get you motivated but just know that you will probably get letters back saying that they report accurate info and blah blah blah.  Send them another one.  Don't give up.  I got one taken off of my hubby's report but not off of mine yet.  But I am trying.  I am not going to give up.  There was a pretty good GW example letter by Shnapple that cracked me up and I used it last week.  It was pretty good so I hope it lands on someone with a sense of humor and they are having a good day!
Don't dispute with the CRA's unless you know that something is reporting incorrectly.  That will just come back to hurt you.  They don't believe in goodwill!!  lol

Re: What Should I Do?

Okay thanks so much! I haven't gotten any responses yet. But if I do get the ones that you mentioned I will just keep trying. If I don't hear anything back in 30 days of sending them then I'll resend. Yes there was a reason ... my wife had just had our son and I took off for two weeks and was supposed to recieve paternal leave pay but didn't and it's $900/wk so it hurt us really bad.

Thanks again.

Re: What Should I Do?

WELCOME!!

All is not lost here....there are a few really well-written gw letters on this forum.  Explain your circumstances and play to their sympathies.  I received a gw once because the lady liked my holiday stationary!!!

Bank of America = 30(7/06)(8/06)  Probably Not, they are difficult!
Chase = 30(5/06)(7/06) Probably Not, another difficult creditor
Citifinancial = (7/06)  I've heard good things about their gw
First Premier Bank = (8/06)
Lowes = (8/06)  I'm voting a YES
Walmart = (7/06) I'm voting a YES
Goody's = (6/06)  Not Familiar
Target = (7/06) I'm voting a YES

There is GOOD NEWS here.  If those are 30 day lates, you're coming up on the 18 month mark, so they're hurting you less.  At the two year mark, even less.  The general *rule of thumb* is the 30 days hurt less after one year.  Because you have several, sending gw's to remove as many as possible is a good idea.

If you're declined gw...send another gw!

Re: What Should I Do?

Thanks for the Welcome! Also thanks for the info on which are most possible. I think I will spend more hours on here looking for a better GW. The one that I wrote I did explain what had happened but it might sound too much like it came from here. Here's a copy of it ...

To Whom It May Concern:

I have been a Chase customer since December of 2003 and during that time, I have enjoyed my experience with your customer service greatly. I am writing to see if you would be willing to make a "goodwill" adjustment to your reporting to the three credit agencies. I have two late payments on the above referenced account from May and July 2006. Since that time I have been an exceptional customer paying every month on time.

Because of my exceptional payment history over the last 20 months, I would like you to consider removing the negative payment from my credit report. At the time of the late payment, my wife had just given birth to our son and my job failed to pay my paternity leave and I wasn’t aware of the non-payment until it was too late. I say that not to justify why the payments was late, but rather to show that the late payments was not a good indicator of my actual credit worthiness. I hope that you are willing to work with me on erasing this mark from my credit reports.

I have been a very happy customer in the past and hope to continue a long relationship with your company. With today’s credit industry so competitive, I know how important it is to maintain good relationships with customers. You have been exceptional in my book so far and I highly recommend you to all my friends and relatives. I hope that you will deeply consider my request and prove once again, why you are heads above the rest. I look forward to your reply.

Sincerely,

Removing as many as possible was my goal. Thanks I will definately take your advice.

Re: What Should I Do?

Thanks! I would say that those two weeks meant the world to me but I wasn't aware I wasn't getting paid until I went back to work and didn't recieve it. My wife doesn't work so I would have never put us in this situation on purpose. Thanks though for your comment. Smiley Wink
