What is going on?

Please help me understand what I can do to improve this problem I am having. Currently all I have is 3 credit cards, as listed. Capital One - $300 limit Chase - $200 limit Gap card - $200 limit I have a 642eq and 653tu score, and I just asked for a CLI from chase and got declined. I don't understand why though. I see people with lower scores getting credit card limits with $10,000. Any suggestions on what card I can apply for to get a higher limit. These little limits are practically useless to me, I can put 50% of my chase card just filling up gas, its ridiculous. Basically, I want to have a higher limit credit card, but I get discouraged for putting an inquiry in for one, when I get declined for a CLI of just $200. Any help would be great.

Re: What is going on?

How long have you had your Cap One card? They gave me a couple thousand more after I had them for a couple of years.

Also - when you call them, they base their limit on your history with them, they don't pull your CRs. When I called, they told me I was approved for $500 or something - I said "oh is that it?" Then they got more info from me and gave me the larger increase.

That's my biggest credit card limit and we've got about the same scores. Let me know if you get anything bigger!
