What is this found on my CR?

All it says on Equifax is:

Collection on debt to: Not on Record

The collection agency "774ya00000" was hired to collect a debt of $112 originally owed to "Not on Record" on account number "XXXXXX0250".

How do I find out what this is for and who I'm supposed to owe this money to?  I think I'm gonna dispute it, but what do I say as for why I don't think I owe this?

Thanks!

Re: What is this found on my CR?

My Equifax report showed two collections that had the creditor's name coded like that. But when I purchased the TU and EX reports, they both gave me the real name and address and phone number of the collection agency.  I don't know why the Equifax doesn't show it.

I would dispute as "not mine" If they don't have the info posted on the CR then they obviously may not have the info to contact the creditor. They'll probably delete it.

Re: What is this found on my CR?

All they will do is contact the collection agency who will in turn, verify the debt. You will probably have to get a MOV from the CA and they will probably send you the name of the original creditor. If you don't know who the original creditor is or if you've never had an account with them, then you will have a stronger case in dispute.

Do you have any unpaid medical bills you are aware of?

Re: What is this found on my CR?

I generally dispute anything that isn't properly (i.e., fully) reported: the original creditor, the amount owed, the date, etc. My reasoning is these are financial matters, and accuracy is a reasonable expectation for someone involved in a financial transaction. I wouldn't expect anyone to pay a bill from entity "8035af0a36d" for $386 for service "not on record." I know whoever runs the CRAs wouldn't just cough up money for something like that. Why should I?
