What kind of accounts report as "Open"?

Does anyone know what kind of accounts report as "Open" for the account type? Are these rare and unusual types of accounts?

Any revolving card not closed and all installments not yet paid off should report as open.

Amex charge cards-

I am sure there are a few others, but this is the most common.

They have to be paid off every month and are not counted in utiliazation.

What about collections? Is there a reason they report as open? How can a utility collection be open? I've yet to understand that logic. I guess it simply refers to "waiting for closure" ?

There are two different places where you might see "open."

OP was asking about account type --open there means an account like an AmEx charge card as opposed to "installment" or "revolving."

You'll also see "open" used for account condition or similar terms. This just means that the account is still open, in the sense that it hasn't been closed. So collections that haven't been paid off and so forth might show "open" here.
