What's the best plan?

Hi guys,

Here's the story. I settled on a Cap1 account for half of what was owed about a year ago (owed $7500 settled for $3500). I don't think they'll accept a GW letter for such a huge loss, but maybe it's worth a shot? If I offered a PFD should I offer less than the full balance? Or could they reject a PFD and sue me for the full balance after it's been settled? What would be the best plan? GW, PFD? I'm unsure what I should do. Help!

Re: What's the best plan?

I would offer the $3500 difference to get it off your cbr report.  I know you wanna be savvy and save your money but use a PFD letter...and inject some of your kindness into it...meaning say something like, "I've been considering the debt that I had previously settled and I can't in good conscience let this go unpaid.  I would like to pay the difference if you would also in turn delete it off my cbr report." Obviously you could work on that statement, but try to make yourself sound like a good samaritan, it's worth a shot and would probably look better than the cookie cutter PFD example letter...besides, the PFD example letters are templates, they're meant to be tweaked.

A pay for deletion will not work with a company like Capital One. That will only work with some collection agencies.
