What to do to keep from accounts closing?

Hey all. I'm 25 and since college I've had 3 CC's I've been trying to pay down. I finally paid one off and have been working at the other 2. I got a 4th with a great 0% offer, transferred the 2 balances down a bunch, so I was paying 3 cards off with lower utilization to help out my credit. I found out today that that 4th card i paid off closed a while back...like, a year back. My credit score is fine now, but I'd prefer that none of my remaining 3 cards get closed. What, specifically, keeps a card from being closed? I'm sure a general answer is "use it," I just wasn't sure if there were any other guidelines

Any info would help

Thank you.

Every CCC is different but to be safe, you should use your cards at least once every 3-4 months.

CCs can close for many reasons. You got the primary one right - lack of attention. Use 1/2 of your cards every month, keep your balance under 10%, and rotate them. That's the "FICO Rising" game.

Second - being over limit (usually more than once)
Third - late payments. They don't like chasing down their money.
Fourth - hopefully soon to be extinct - UD Universal Default. If they see you've maxed out other cards or even hit over 85% utility, they can consider you a high risk and close you.

They should have sent you a statement giving you 15 or more days notice as they were the ones to close the account. (sometimes they forget to).

On the bright side - if they don't want you - you don't want them.

12/10/07 TU ??? - EQ 579 - EX ??? - 60% util - OOPS!

My gas card goes inactive after 12 months of zero use. And it might need a hard pull to reactivate it
The slide from grace is really more like gliding
And I've found the trick is not to stop the sliding
But to find a graceful way of staying slid
