What to do when CRA won't updated Consumer Statement

I put a consumer statement on my EQ file last year when they had my student loans reported as included in bankruptcy when they where not and EQ would not update them even though Sallie Mae did not even know who I was, they kept coming back as verified. Anyway, I added a statement that these were not included in bankruptcy and that is was incorrect reporting.

Turns out this was a huge mistake. Now the BK is off my records, but this consumer statement remains, so there is still a reference to anyone who may do a manual review. I have either opened an online dispute or called Equifax 8 times now in the past 6 months. I've spoken to front line reps, I've spoken to supervisors, I even tried to just provide a new statement in the form of an update online. None of these have worked and they just won't remove the statement.  I don't understand this since I was the person who placed the statement. It looks like updating it o removing it should not be a problem.

What should I do at this point? It's probably not worth hiring a lawyer and suing them. I just really want this reference off my report, but not sure what I should do for next steps. They have already cost me so much time with this simple little request and I'm tired of it. If I don't get it gone it will stay on there until 2028. Any ideas?

Re: What to do when CRA won't updated Consumer Statement

I filed two Better Business Bureau of Atlanta complaints and talked to a bunch of people there, before someone finally said she'd remove "my" statement. I haven't verified it's actually removed yet (I cannot log in to view the results of my dispute without sending them a birth certificate, which I will not do, so I'm waiting to pull my new report on MyFICO in August and manually check it there).

In my case, I never gave them a statement I wanted listed. They magpied a "statement" out of old disputes, and combined it in all caps with no punctuation to make me sound like a crazy person. Since the disputes were old (and, I might add, successful), this means I have a crazy-sounding all-caps "consumer statement" referring to negative items that are not otherwise on the report.

I think they do this spitefully or vindictively, and I honestly believe that Equifax is a quasi-criminal organization.

Either that or they are just totally incompetent. I've been told by so many of them that it would be gone, so either they don't know how to do it or something is broken in their software system. How did you approach the BBB? Just filed a complaint?

I had some issues with EQ not updating notations on my account (that they said they would update), as well as an extended fraud alert *and* erroneous addresses, and it took a CFPB complaint to get them to update it correctly - I did everything online through their dispute/complaint page.

Re: What to do when CRA won't updated Consumer Statement

Thanks, I had never done a CFPB complaint until right now. Let's see if that gets the issue resolved.

I am in the same boat, BK no longer shows up on the report, but Its still mentioned under my statement.  I've tried twice already and they keep on coming back saying it's "verfied".  I even did a new statement just saysing "Thanks for checking".  They still won't remove it.  Please let me know how your complaint goes.  thx

This is my issue. The statement mentions my bk which is no longer on my report. I tried the just updating it to a new statement saying no statement and that did not work for me either. The cfpb complaint process was fairly painless. I had always thought doing those was complicated but with their online form it’s not hard at all
